The sweater dress is making a huge comeback this year. Let’s face it, 2023 is the year of everything old is new again! We’ve got corduroy pants, ballet flats, and all things 90s, and now I’m sharing the best sweater dresses for women over 50. Why are they great for women over 50? Because they are great for everyone and we’ve reached the age where we can wear what we want!
One of my favorite silhouettes is the Fit and Flare. This is where the top is fitted and the bottom half flares out. This is a great look for women with a little more in the hip or thigh area. Eliza J is a great brand for dresses. I’ve had several through the years. This would be great for a work function or even a fall wedding. Dress Women Casual
This is from one of my faves – Diane Von Furstenberg. This is a wool/cashmere blend and available in both camel and black. I’m sure it would look good in either but I LOVE this camel. This is so chic and elegant. It has a hefty price tag but you know it would feel amazing.
Here’s another great fit and flare dress. This one is from CeCe! I like the dark cocoa color but if you want something more festive, it comes in red and green. Either would be great for the holidays. It’s a little shorter but if you’ve got the legs, flaunt them! Of course, you can also wear tights if you want to be a bit more demure. This is on sale so hurry!
Isn’t this gorgeous? Remember when I blogged about quiet luxury? This is a great example. It’s simple and elegant and rendered in a great blend of wool and cashmere. This is unlined so if wool or cashmere bothers you, you’ll want to wear a body slip. In addition to the cream, it also comes in black and dark green.
I’ve decided to call this a Cardigan Sweater dress, lol. All jokes aside, I do really like the olive color and the buttons down the front. This is more casual than some and would look great with booties and a vest. At $89 dollars, it’s one of the lower-priced options from Nordstrom. If you prefer, black is available and looks great with tennis shoes!
Here’s the lovely v-neck sweater vest that I styled above. I love that it can be worn with or without the enclosed belt. This is a very affordable option from Amazon at only $40 dollars. It comes in over 15 different colors and has a 4.5-star rating. I’m wearing a large, which is my normal size. I do like that the dressy is stretchy, so it looks good on my ruler body frame, and it would also look great on someone with more curves.
Amazon calls the A-Line, but it’s also another good example of the fit and flare. Again, you can use the belt, take the belt off, or replace it with a different type. I like white but of course, it comes in multiple colors. Buy it in green, black, or red if you want something special for the holidays.
When I think “sweater dress” this is what I usually think of. I love the cable knit style and the turtle neck. I don’t know how Amazon does it, but this is also just $40 dollars. It’s been reviewed over 1,000 times and has a 4.3 star rating. All of that and delivered right to your door! Win/Win.
And finally, a ribbed long-sleeve sweater dress in a midi length, perfect for fall and winter. Guess what? It’s not $40 dollars. Sorry, but it’s $45 dollars! lol. It comes in over 20 colors, has been reviewed over 3,000 times and has a 4.4 star rating. I think the khaki color is perfection!

Love the sweater dress on you!
I just love Lucy Lu!! We had a little rescue Yorkie we named Rocko Spaghetti “Noodles”, aka “The Yorkie”. I found him one year when he had been dumped in the snow. He was the most intelligent, loving, and sweet little guy ever. He passed in March of 2020, and not a day goes by that we don’t think of him with love. ❤️ Please kiss your baby for me!! I love your examples of your sweater dresses, especially styled with a beautiful pair of boots. Right now, we are getting ready for a move to the Big Island of Hawaii, so I guess no more sweater dresses will be in my closet..cute boots either!! God bless you, sweet lady!! Thank you for putting together a wonderful blog everyday, they are much anticipated, and appreciated!
I love a sweater dress. That cable knit is calling my name!
I love the split sweater dress. It looked so good on you. And I also liked the mid lenght ones. Of course I loved Lucy Lu in the glasses.
Beautiful dresses. I’ll just have to admire them on others. I don’t think they are for me
Love knitted items for their warmth.
God Bless, your hard work, doing this every day of the week, is a challenge I am sure.
The red dress with long top looks wonderful on you! I’m wondering what underthings would be the best to wear under a sweater dress. it seems that bra lines etc. would be visible. thanks for your advice.
Janice, I didn’t notice an issue. Because the sweaters are usually chunky, the underwear doesn’t seem to show.
I love sweater dresses! Love the new looks!
I just can’t see me wearing a sweater dress. I don’t like showing my lumps and bumps. I am 5’6″ and I weigh 130 pounds, but I have the “muffin top” inspite of much work…..No sweater dresses for me. In my younger, size 4, 100 pounds days, I would have loved these.
I am really tempted by these sweater dresses!
Love sweater dresses but I don’t wear them anymore. My 72 year old body just doesn’t look good in them now.
The fit-and-flare, and the swing dress are my favorite styles.
I bought Cocomelon JJ Phonics, and a big set of markers for gifts. Then Lakanto MonkFruit for Amazon deal days. Saved a bundle by waiting for 3 days to purchase.
Love, love, love the outfit you are wearing. The boots are perfect.
You look really sharp in the hot pink one. Very cute dresses. I hope I get to wear the one sweater dress I own this year. Last year every Sunday from January to March was too warm for me to wear it. It has wool and high neck so it has to be under 40 degrees for me to wear it to church. That’s the only time I really dress up.
I hope you get the chance to wear your sweater dress this year!
Love that first one (the color) with the plaid blazer and higher boots. Looks so sharp! Thanks for the great options!
Thanks for showing us some sweater dresses. They are so cozy in cold weather.
They are very warm and cozy!
The sweater dresses are beautiful. Maybe I will try one next time I’m out shopping!
My favorite is the Spruce fit and flare. I am petite and wish it was petite. However my body type doesn’t allow me to wear tight clothing. You always do such a great job and I love your post. I live in the USA and I purchased sheets from amazon.
They are all lovely, but my body is not a shape for sweater dresses.
I love a sweater dress with boots. Fit and flare is perfect if you have an hourglass figure. Thanks for the inspiration. Your choices are always wonderful.
This is a great selection of sweater dresses. Every one of them is quite lovely. Beautiful. Thank you for bringing them to us.
You look nice in the sweater dress. Sadly, I’m not built for that anymore.
I purchased the two piece sweater dress you featured in September from Walmart. My husband near died when that package arrived, not a Walmart style shopper however it is darling. A sweater dress and boots will be a lovely Church outfit. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.
Choices are beautiful. I don’t think a sweater dress would do my body any favors.
Good Morning! So I searched through the Amazon Prime Day deals and finally decided on coffee. They have a great array of brands and taste. I have found that I pay much less for my coffee pods than picking them up on my weekly grocery run. And the quick delivery is perfect. I also fell for the “sweater dress”, even at my advanced age 😊they really do fill the bill. I selected two sweater dresses from Susan Graver and love them both. One in navy and one in camel. I’ve already selected the accessories for both, including a more casual look and the style for more formal events. Either way I’m set for the few winter months we have down here.
My daughter loves sweater dresses. I’m showing her these. It depends on the style for me.
Love the fit and flare style. Not sure if I would wear it though
I really want a sweater dress this season! Thank you for showing so many different styles.
I’ve never tried a sweater dress. These are so cute! So many different styles to choose from!
I’m not so sure about wearing a sweater dress on my body. Not much for snug fitted items.
That is the worst part of wearing a sweater dress.
I love the sweater dress options, there are 2 styles I particularly like that are the fit and flare style. I think I need to loose 20 lbs before I would be comfortable but I may try one of them anyway.
My Prime day purchase was the veggie chopper you featured.
I think you’ll like the veggie chopper.
The Fit and Flare sweater dress is perfect! Perfect for date night or a wedding. Thanks for sharing.
I love a fit and flare dress.
Beautiful sweater dresses! Oh my, I bought too much on Amazon! Laneige sleep mask for lips, joico Defy damage volume shampoo and the list goes on.
Hard to find a nice midi sweater dress in petite.
I love a sweater dress!! I think they are a classy easy style. I will definitely wear tights or matching hose at my age. Dress it up or down. I enjoy your emails!! Thank you for your great blogs.
I never thought I had the body type to wear a sweater dress but I think the fit and flare style will work for me…..with some good shapewear!! I especially love the white a-line fit and flare.
A sweater dress? I just might! The fit-and-flares are so chic, and I love the jewel-toned color you’re wearing.
I love a sweater dress! I have had a couple in the past, but it is now time to replace mine. Thanks for sharing the new dresses.
Such a beautiful picture of you and your granddaughter. Love the sweater dresses!
I’m not a prime member to buy the amazon deals
These sweater dresses are absolutely yummy especially now that the weather has turned cool and pumpkins are everywhere!
Sweater dresses can be tricky. Beautiful, but tricky.
Hum…I’ve always shied away from sweater dresses as I see them as potentially to clingy. However, I do like some of the options that your posts showed. Thanks for posting something outside my comfort zone.
