The Empty Tea Bags For All You Loose-Leaf Tea Lovers | Bon Appétit

I collect loose-leaf tea like unread emails—you can never have enough. I’m sure I’ll get to them all eventually! Loose tea is fresher than bagged, more flavorful, and full-bodied. I’m pretty sure this is an understood fact—tea snobs, am I right? But you know what sucks? Those little metal balls you have to put loose tea in. They’re like torture devices: You spoon the tea in, it gets all over the counter, you start sobbing, and suddenly it’s “can’t go to work today.” It might be me, but I swear those balls also give the tea a tin-like aftertaste. Wait, it gets worse! After your tea time is all said and done, they’re a total pain in the A to clean.

This is where Rishi, a company that also makes great tea, comes in. They make the best disposable tea bags ever made, the end. Yes, I’ve tried others with cute little drawstrings and stuff. These are better. And at $8 for 100, very affordable, too. They’re biodegradable (and not dyed or full of chemicals) so you don’t feel like a jerk when you throw them away. They have a big flap at the top that I put over the side of the mug or kettle, and, because of the way the tea floats in the water, the leaves don’t spill out. (You could also clip it or tie it if you’re the worrisome type.) And they’re HUGE. You can put enough tea in one bag for a whole pot, and, hell, reuse it later for pot number two. Side note: If you aren’t reusing your tea leaves for a second round, you’re missing out. Steep it a little longer, but the flavor will remain intact (for most teas). You could even mix teas and make your own blends in these bags. Think of the world that’s about to open up for you! Maybe a green tea and hibiscus situation? Pu-erh and ginger? Worth a try.

I really like what this Amazon reviewer wrote about Rishi bags: “Somebody had their proverbial stuff together when they came up with this idea.” They mean someone had their shit together when they invented these, and soon you will too. You’ll be sipping your tea and wondering how you managed to live any other way, and suddenly that inbox is down to (0).
