NEEDLES — Three Twentynine Palms park and recreation youth basketball all-star teams won their divisions at a Needles tournament Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3. The seventh/eighth grade boys, third/fourth grade boys and third/fourth grade girls all went undefeated.
Twentynine Palms’ fifth/sixth grade boys and seventh/eighth grade girls took home second place honors.
Most Valuable Player honors were earned by the following Twentynine Palms athletes.
All-tournament honors were brought home by the following.
“Overall the tournament was a resounding success for Twentynine Palms youth basketball,” Recreation Supervisor Haywood Adams said.
“Four teams went through bracket play Saturday undefeated and played their championship game Sunday with just the 5/6 boys falling short in a closely contested battle with Beaumont,” Adams said.
“Kaiden from 3/4 boys hit a game-winning shot that broke the tie with seconds left on the clock. The 5/6 girls won their last game of the tournament after falling short in their first two contests.”
The all-star teams will be back in action in the Beaumont tournament March 16-17.
