Theoretically, the best white T-shirts should be the easiest item to buy: You can find them at every price point (from fast fashion to luxury), at every retailer (from Amazon to Uniqlo), and in every silhouette (fitted, slouchy, crewneck, scoop, and so on). And yet it’s increasingly difficult to cut through all the noise to find that one T-shirt that feels tailor-made for you, that you instinctively reach for when you’re getting dressed in the morning, that you buy in bulk because you wear it so often that it’s just better to shop that way.
Like your trusty black leggings, white sneakers, and tank tops, these tees are true wardrobe staples. They’re seasonless, pulling just as much weight whether they’re front and center in your spring outfits or just barely peeking out from under your cold-weather knits. Crisp, weighty T-shirts will always look great beneath blazers or tucked into denim; slouchier, lighter options will never fail to make you appear and feel more relaxed. Sometimes it’s best to go simple. Such is the case with Amazon’s in-house tees, which come in two- and four-packs and look even better than you might expect. The fit is neither too tight nor too loose, and the cotton-modal-spandex blend allows for just the right stretch. Glamour special projects editor Ru Wolle was taken by how soft this shirt is. It also holds up to washes without losing its semifitted shape—a worthy investment that comes in at less than $10 a pop.

It’s 100% cotton and comes preshrunk, meaning you won’t have to wash it to reveal its true size. Glamour shopping editor Jake Henry Smith agrees, saying, “My Hanes shirts have lasted forever—we’re talking since the early days of the pandemic—and they’re still going strong.” Glamour senior trending news and entertainment editor Sam Reed, modeled the tee for this shoot and says, “I prefer more heft in my tees, but I loved the cut of this one. You heard it here first, J.Crew’s basics are still worthwhile. “It’s buttery soft, fitted, but not too tight to where I felt uncomfortable,” says Teen Vogue associate editor, Aiyana Ishmael, who also notes that this tee runs true to size. Glamour commerce director Brie Schwartz is also obsessed with this bright white tee. “It’s the perfect balance of fitted and relaxed, and it’s thick enough that you don’t feel like it’s clinging to your body,” she says. Take a cue from the brand’s preppy playbook and style it tucked into a pair of straight-leg jeans with a tailored suit and dainty jewelry.

Uniqlo’s heavyweight crewneck tee is one of the best we’ve encountered so far. The shirt itself is made of a rigid midweight cotton that ages just as well, softening over time and keeping its shape. “It feels so breathable and light—like switching to the cool side of your pillow at night,” says Glamour’s senior commerce editor Jenifer Calle. “It’s also super stretchy, and the length fell right at my hips. What really makes this shirt great, though, is its price point—just $25 for a well-constructed, quality T-shirt is a bargain.” Keep in mind that it can shrink in the wash so be sure to check the care instructions.
