Aiming to accelerate the implementation of a next-generation product, manufacturer Sumix is collaborating with 3M to support the introduction of a microscope with an expanded beam optical connector.
Sumix Corporation announces its collaboration with 3M to support the introduction and implementation of the Expanded Beam Optical Connector. For this, Sumix has developed and introduced an adapter for the Manta-W+ fiber inspection microscope that guarantees efficient testing of the new connector end. The 3M Expanded Beam Optical Connector is based on a revolutionary expanded beam ferrule and connector design that provides improvements in performance and dust resistance over PC (physical contact) type models. But, all connectors must be inspected to confirm cleanliness and absence of damage.
Thus, 3M is developing an ecosystem for its new Expanded Beam Optical Connector System and is now announcing cooperation with Sumix to create specific adapters (with the “pass/fail” criteria) for the review of 3M connectors.
The Manta-W+ connector microscope with new adapters and software will greatly help ensure that data centers, laboratories and production facilities can implement the new system quickly and efficiently.
“We have redefined fiber optic connectors,” says Nick Stacey, global laboratory manager at 3M.“The collaboration with Sumix helps us ensure a scalable deployment.”
“In addition, Sumix is at the forefront of technological advancements and therefore offers innovative inspection solutions for every type of connector available in the industry,” says Farhad Towfiq, president of Sumix.“We also work with customers to develop custom products, including specialized adapters and software.”
As a nice bonus, the Manta-W+ platform of fiber instruments, which encompasses the SMX-Manta, SMX-Manta+ and Scopio series, can be used as a probe or benchtop microscope for use in the field, laboratories and production centers.
Manta-W+ supports almost all standard connector ferrules, such as MPO, LC, SC, SMA, E2000, AVIM and Mini-AVIM, both in patch cords and bulkheads, with a wide selection of interchangeable tips.
