Brazilian Acetic Acid Price Drops to $595 per Ton Following Four Months of Continuous Decline - News and Statistics - IndexBox

In July 2023, the acetic acid price amounted to $595 per ton (CIF, Brazil), reducing by -10.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 an increase of 21% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,190 per ton. From September 2022 to July 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($744 per ton), while the price for the United States ($577 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Acetic acid imports into Brazil shrank dramatically to 8.6K tons in July 2023, which is down by -37.9% on June 2023 figures. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 when imports increased by 78% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 22K tons. From January 2023 to July 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, acetic acid imports declined sharply to $5.1M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2023. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 with an increase of 62% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $18M. From January 2023 to July 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In July 2023, the United States (7.1K tons) constituted the largest supplier of acetic acid to Brazil, with a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, acetic acid imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (1.2K tons), sixfold.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States amounted to +4.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: China (-8.6% per month) and South Korea (+15.0% per month).

In value terms, the United States ($4.1M) constituted the largest supplier of acetic acid to Brazil, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($830K), with a 16% share of total imports.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value from the United States was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: China (-11.8% per month) and South Korea (+8.0% per month).
