Bitmain Antminer S17: the new 7nm ASICs for bitcoin mining

Bitmain has recently officially launched a new series of 7nm ASICs for bitcoin mining: the S17, S17 Pro and T17 Antminers.

As Bitmain itself anticipated in recent weeks, these new ASICs for bitcoin mining use the new 7 nanometer BM1397 chips. This is an evolution of the BM1391, announced last September and currently used in the current Antminer S15 and T15. s17 pro miner

Bitmain Antminer S17: the new 7nm ASICs for bitcoin mining

The BM1397 chips were made on a 7-nanometer FinFET production process from TSMC’s production facility and, thanks to a new functional layout and production refinement, offer much lower power consumption than previous generations of chips. Under maximum efficiency conditions, in fact, they can go up to 30 joules per TH, a 30% reduction compared to the previous generation.

These 7nm chips are used in five Bitmain products: the Antminer S17 Pro 53 TH/s, the S17 Pro 50 TH/s, the S17 56TH/s, the S17 53 TH/s and the T17 40 TH/s. Contrary to popular belief, the Pro series outlines the devices with the best energy efficiency, while the “smooth” version outlines those with the best performance.

Bitmain Antminer S17 Pro: 53 TH/s, 2100 Watt at $2030

The top of the range of the Antminer S17 series is surely the Bitmain Antminer S17 Pro, an ASIC able to reach a maximum hashrate close to 53 TH/s on the SHA256 hashing algorithm, with an energy absorption close to 2100 Watt/hour. This results in a maximum efficiency of close to 40 Watts per TH/s.

Obviously, in addition to the normal mode, there is also an operating mode aimed at maximising efficiency. In this mode, in fact, the Antminer S17 Pro can reach the record value of only 36 Watts per TH/s, while still guaranteeing a maximum hashrate of 48 TH/s for a total consumption of only 1700 Watts per hour.

There is also a turbo mode, able to go up to 62 TH/s with a maximum absorption of 2800 Watts per hour. This results in a lower efficiency of about 45 watts per TH/S. Still a good value. The dimensions of the Antminer S17 Pro are slightly larger than the S15 series, respectively 298.2 x 178.0 x 296.6, for a weight close to 9.5 KG. Also in this case, the power supply is already included in the product offer.

The device can be purchased for about two thousand dollars on the official Bitmain website.

Bitmain Antminer S17 Pro: 50 TH/s, 2 kWatt at $1916

The second product in the S17 Pro range is the Bitmain Antminer S17 Pro 50 TH/s, an ASIC capable of reaching a maximum hashrate close to 50 TH/s with an energy absorption of just under 2 KWatt/hour. This results in a maximum efficiency of close to 40 Watts per TH/s. At maximum efficiency, the Antminer S17 Pro can reach 37 Watts per TH/s, while still guaranteeing a maximum hashrate of 47 TH/s for a total consumption of only 1700 Watts per hour. In turbo mode, the ASIC can go up to 62 TH/s with a maximum power consumption of 2900 Watts per hour. This results in a lower efficiency of about 47 watts per TH/S. The Antminer S17 Pro 50 TH/s is sold at a price of $1916 on the manufacturer’s official website.

Bitmain Antminer S17: 56 TH/s, 2500 Watts at $1966

Moving on to the smooth S17 range, we find the Antminer S17 56 TH/s, a device capable of reaching a maximum hashrate of 56 TH/s with a power consumption of 2520 Watt/hour. This translates into an efficiency close to 45 watts per TH/s. In maximum efficiency mode, the Antminer S17 can achieve a value of 35 Watts per TH/s, while still guaranteeing a maximum hashrate of 50 TH/s for a total consumption of only 2100 Watts per hour. The dimensions and form factor are identical to the Antminer S17 Pro, while the price drops. We’re talking 1966 dollars. For more details please refer to the official website.

Bitmain Antminer S17: 53 TH/s, 2385 Watt for $1886

The fourth product is the Antminer S17 53 TH/s, a machine designed for those looking for the best price/performance ratio. Bitmain Antminer S17 50 TH/s is able to obtain a hashrate of 53 TH/s with an energy consumption of about 2385 Watt/hour. We are therefore talking about an efficiency close to 45 Watts per TH. In the energy-saving mode, the S17 achieves a hashrate of 50 TH/s with 2100 Watt consumption, for an efficiency of 42 Watt per TH. The price, on the other hand, is more attractive. The Antminer S17, in fact, costs $1886. For more details please refer to the official website.

Bitmain Antminer T17: 2200 Watt for 40 TH/s

The Bitmain Antminer T17 is the successor of the old T15 and is able to achieve a hashrate of 40 TH/s in bitcoin mining with a maximum energy absorption of about 2200 Watt/hour. This translates into an efficiency of close to 55 watts per TH. We are therefore far from the 40 Watt TH of the Antminer S17 Pro flagship store, which can reach 53 TH/s. Unlike other solutions, the Bitmain Antminer T17 has no power saving mode. The dimensions of the Antminer T17 are slightly larger than the S15 series and identical to the previous S17 and S17 Pro series. The power supply is already included in the product offer. The device is on sale at a price of 1270 dollars, a figure well below the S17 and S17 Pro, sold for almost 2000 dollars. The Antminer T17 is a device that does not shine for performance and efficiency but was born as an economic solution to mine bitcoin intended for those who have electricity at very low prices or none at all.
