An issue with a valve near a fire hydrant in Boston's Brighton neighborhood early Tuesday has caused part of a road to buckle. tricone bits for sale

Water shot into the air out of a break in the roadway at the intersection of Leicester and Arlington streets.

A section of the road at the crosswalk buckled, and mud covered the road after crews shut off the water.

Boston Water and Sewer officials said the issue stemmed from a dysfunctional gate valve on an 8-inch main and not the adjacent hydrant.

"A gate valve that controls flow of 8-inch main on Leicester in Brighton gave way. These things happen on occasion, could be some corrosion," said Stephen Mulloney, of Boston Water and Sewer.

The water was turned off as crews completed repairs. Fifteen customers were left without water for several hours, officials said.
