Hundreds of homes in Wiltshire have been cut off from the gas supply after a digger hit a mains pipe.
Engineers worked late into Tuesday night to isolate a leak in Foundry Lane, Chippenham, after firefighter swere called at around 14:20 GMT to investigate reports of a strong smell of gas. keyway sprocket
Four fire crews attended the incident, with the source traced to a building site where the gas main had been damaged.
Wales & West Utilities, which took over management of the incident on Tuesday evening, said a "complex operation" was ongoing.
Josh Williams-Trim, Wales & West utilities operational manager for Chippenham, said on Wednesday morning that a team of engineers had "worked late into the night" to isolate the leak.
"They also provided alternative cooking and heating facilities to vulnerable customers.," he said, adding: "We also sent text messages to customers to inform them of the situation, where we have numbers for them.
"Our team is continuing with the door to door visits this morning and also commencing work on the repair which is a complex operation.
No timeline for the repair to be completed has yet been given, but Mr Williams-Trim said customers would be updated as soon as possible.
