Why are people paying $300 dress up in diapers? | Metro News

Behind the doors of a New Hampshire spa, is something you truly – truly – would never expect.

Officially called The Diaper Spa, the new business in Atkinson, New Hampshire, is aimed at adults who wear diapers and role-play as young children — a group otherwise known as the Adult Baby Diaper Lover (ABDL) community. adult diapers with skin friendly materials

It promises a ‘safe and judgement-free zone’, allowing guests to pamper themselves with ‘snacks, playtime, story time, nap time, cuddle time, changing time, colouring, nursery rhymes and sing-a-longs’.

Its website describes the setting as an ‘ageplay-friendly, adult diaper spa’ for people to address past trauma.

ABDL is often considered to be a type of fetish, in which consenting adults role play in some way pertaining to age, in this case babies by wearing nappies. Some peoplewithin the community will argue there’s nothing sexual about it at all.

In any case, the pastime is very different to the trend of concertgoers wearing nappies in order to avoid missing their favourite song or losing their spot at a show, which is more of an act of convenience against FOMO.

The New Hampshire establishment is advertising its nursery care for $300 (£237) an hour among other services that are not what you would normally expect in a spa, such as a $200 (£158) virtual playdate.

The most expensive package on the list is a 24-hour Diaper B&B, which is described as a ‘premiere spa experience for the little one inside of you’.

But residents who live close the spa in Atkinson aren’t happy about it. More than 500 people have signed an online petition to get the business shut down

Written by Kayla Gallagher, it reads: ‘As residents and patrons of this community, we feel compelled to voice our collective concern and dissatisfaction regarding potential incidents that pose a threat to the safety and well-being of our community members, particularly our children.

‘We strongly ask a firm and continued rejection for this business to operate in our community.’

Local resident, Mike Vigliotta, told WHDH that he’s also against the spa. However, Helen DiGrancesco wasn’t too bothered about the new business.

‘Just wouldn’t bother me,’ she said. ‘If I didn’t need it, it still wouldn’t bother me,’ she told the same news station.

The owner of the New Hampshire spa, Dr. Colleen Ann Murphy, who is a board-certified integrative medicine physician and sexologist, told WHDH that her facility is intended to be a place for people to heal from trauma.

Murphy also said the spa is not intended to cater to ‘perverts’. Speaking to Fox News, she explained: ‘One of the most common misconceptions about ABDL is the association with paedophiles, perverts, and sex offenders.

‘This is not true, and I have never encountered anyone of that nature in my work or research.

‘ABDL, or Adult Baby Diaper Lover, is a diverse community with various individuals and their unique wants and needs.

‘In my work, I primarily focus on individuals who see this lifestyle as a physical or emotional necessity rather than entertainment. All my services are platonic and performed solely on my own property.’

The ABDL community exists beyond the US, including here in the UK. A 35-year-old man who identified himself only using the pseudonym Mark, from south London, previously told Metro.co.uk why he enjoys it.

‘It feels great sitting in a wet and soiled nappy,’ he shared. ‘For a normal person it would be horrible but for me it feels comforting, while also naughty and humiliating’.

Mark said his fetish began in early puberty when he felt ‘a sense of wanting to be a baby again’.

Meanwhile, ‘Nanny Prudence’, who charges upwards of £200 for an ABDL session ran by her, said her clients are usually aged 25 to 65 and are over 95% male.
