The 170,000-square-foot mechanical recycling and pelletizing facility in Rogers, Minn. is South Africa-based Myplas’s first location in the United States, a Dec. 11 press release noted.

Andrew Pieterse, Myplas USA CEO, said it’s been “a remarkable journey to help bring this vision to life, and we are proud to bring our expertise to this ground-breaking initiative.”

The project was led by the GREATER MSP Partnership’s MBOLD coalition, which seeks to drive economic growth in the area. General Mills, Schwan’s Company and Charter Next Generation made a joint $13 million equity investment, supported by more investments from Target, Ecolab, The Alliance to End Plastic Waste, Closed Loop Partners and the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

Dimitrios Smyrnios, CEO of Schwan’s Company and MBOLD’s chair, said Schwan’s chose to invest in the project “because we’re committed to reducing the environmental impact of our packaging, and we want to be a catalyst for other companies to do the same.”
