Raycap releases Strikesorb surge protection devices

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. (January 28, 2008) - Raycap surge protection devices (SPDs) provide continuous protection from over-voltage and other transient voltage activity for electronic automation and control equipment. Designated Strikesorb, the SPD modules are available in a variety of application-specific voltages and packaging configurations to protect highly sensitive equipment and electronics. The Strikesorb modules meet the IEC 61643-1 standard and the recently (2007) revised UL-1449 (2nd edition) standard without the use of fuses. Fuses used in other surge protection devices can compromise the protection capabilities of TVSS systems.Because the Strikesorb modules have successfully passed 3-cycle testing at available short circuit currents of up to 85kA rms, they can be integrated within panelboards, switchboards, switchgear, automation and motion control centers without conducting additional UL testing. Equipment that incorporates a Strikesorb module does not require further UL 1449 testing in order to meet UL Listing requirements, saving equipment manufacturers time and money.Strikesorb modules are comprised of a single large distribution-grade metal oxide varistor (MOV) disc in a hermetic aluminum housing that provides uniform distribution of the surge current over the total area of the MOV protection element. This results in a high-energy handling capability combined with ultra-low let-through voltage to the automation and control equipment.“The unique fuseless design of the Strikesorb module and its capability to withstand short-circuit currents allow direct installation on the busbars, precluding the need to install additional fuses or interconnection wires. Because Strikesorb provides uninterrupted protection and can resist to repeated surges, even under harsh conditions, they can extend the operating life of the automation and control equipment, since it is never left unprotected from transient voltage,” said Jeff Gibbons, VP Sales and Marketing at Raycap Inc.About Raycap Inc.Raycap Inc., headquartered in Liberty Lake, Wash., manufactures advanced transient voltage surge suppression modules and systems for a broad range of applications. The company exports its Rayvoss systems and Strikesorb modules to more than 40 countries around the world and has operations in the U.S., Canada, Panama, Switzerland, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia-Montenegro.
