Creative designs and IKEA are an undeniable duo. The brand’s budget-friendly and modern home furnishings make it possible to build pieces that reflect personal style without the expense of bespoke design. Whether it’s turning the classic BILLY bookcase into built-in storage or switching out the hardware on a RAST dresser for an updated look, its products are just waiting to be customized to your taste. And doing so just got easier.

IKEA's newest collection, named Tyg, introduces a "new chapter in home textiles that inspires creativity and togetherness through fabrics." With 16 patterns as colorful and unique as you’d expect (four additional patterns are coming later this year), created by 13 designers, you can really make the pieces in your home your own.

These fabrics aren’t just meant for sewing: In fact, IKEA offered up plenty of ideas for how to use its multi-colored options—and not only are they clever, but they also reflect the company’s philosophy of renewing and improving what you already have. Tyg was created to encourage shoppers to creatively incorporate pattern and color into your decor while doing good by the planet.

“At IKEA, our identity is deeply intertwined with the textiles,” Marie Olsson, range area manager, Home Textiles & Rugs, IKEA of Sweden AB, said in a statment. “Historically, we are recognized for our patterns and textiles, which have a long-standing heritage of bold expressions that tell stories. Tyg expresses the IKEA way, 'You can do it' in a playful manner. We did our part as creators of this collection, and we invite you to continue the creation journey.”

The many ideas experts at IKEA presented for using the Tyg fabrics include both functional and fun suggestions. Create art by stapling pieces to a board (they recommended the dynamic FJÄLLDRABA pattern) for quick and inexpensive wall decor. Get out your sewing machine, and make a colorful skirt with pink and red FLUGBLOMSTER. For a practical project, add a remote holder to the side of a chair by creating a pocket with one (or two) of the fabrics, and you’ll never have to hunt for your TV controls again. Decorate your BILLY shelves with boxes covered in a few of the fabrics, where you can stash keys, blankets, dog leashes, and more.
