DPW proposes multi-year adjustments, raising water prices by nearly 10 percent

(WBFF) — Baltimore City's Department of Public Works (DPW) proposed a multi-year rate adjustment to utilities, according to a statement. water and wastewater treatment plant

The adjustment is aimed at supporting the city's water and wastewater infrastructure and will support necessary investments to those systems.

Typical water bills would rise by roughly 9.66% for 2025 and 8.4% for both 2026 and 2027 if the proposal is approved.

DPW will present its proposal to the Baltimore City Board of Estimates on December 18 and request a vote for January 22, 2025.

DPW is in the midst of a $1.9 billion capital improvement program addressing critical infrastructure needs, namely reducing sewer overflows and modernizing both infrastructure and operations.

“This rate increase is a critical component of our comprehensive strategy to safeguard the safety, reliability, and quality of the services we deliver,” DPW Director Khalil Zaied said. “The adjustment is necessary to address rising costs driven by inflation and evolving regulatory requirements. Investing in our infrastructure is essential to ensuring the continued delivery of clean water and efficient sewer services for our communities."
