A Look At The Oyster Perpetual Rolex Deepsea In 18K Yellow Gold

A Haute Time favorite from this year’s Watches & Wonders was undoubtedly the new Oyster Perpetual Rolex Deepsea. This latest iteration, engineered to shine brilliantly even in the darkest ocean depths, is presented in 18 ct yellow gold for the first time. It features a 60-minute graduated Cerachrom bezel insert in blue ceramic and a blue lacquer dial proudly bearing the name ‘DEEPSEA’ in powdered yellow.

The new Deepsea incorporates a groundbreaking technical innovation: the high-performance compression ring within the Ringlock system is now crafted from ceramic. This Cerachrom ring, colored blue and adorned with a circular satin finish and engraved gilded inscriptions, represents a pioneering manufacturing process. Its compression resistance and anti-deformation properties significantly enhance the watch’s waterproofness, making it a marvel of precision engineering. Scaffold Screw Jack

Powered by the caliber 3235, the Rolex Deepsea is equipped with a movement at the forefront of watchmaking technology. This self-winding mechanical movement, entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex, showcases outstanding performance in terms of precision, power reserve, convenience, and reliability. The caliber 3235 features the patented Chronergy escapement, a blue Parachrom hairspring, and high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers, extending the power reserve to approximately 70 hours.

Since its launch in 2008, the Rolex Deepsea has epitomized Rolex’s innovative spirit. Guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 3,900 meters (12,800 feet), it inaugurated the Ringlock system – a unique case architecture designed to withstand extreme underwater pressure. This deep-sea diver’s watch meets the exacting requirements of professional divers in terms of resistance to underwater pressure, precision, and reliability.

In the underwater depths, legibility is paramount for survival. The Rolex Deepsea features a dial with a pared-back design and Chromalight display, ensuring that the hour markers and hands emit a long-lasting blue glow. The bezel’s triangular ‘zero’ marker also contains this luminescent material, enhancing visibility in the dark.

Rolex has pioneered the development of special ceramics for creating virtually scratchproof monobloc bezels and bezel inserts. The colors of these materials are intense and resistant to environmental effects. The new Deepsea’s unidirectional rotatable bezel with a 60-minute graduated Cerachrom insert in blue ceramic allows divers to monitor their underwater time efficiently. The high-performance compression ring of the Ringlock system, also in blue ceramic, adds to the watch’s robustness.

The 44 mm Oyster case, made from a solid block of 18 ct yellow gold, guarantees waterproofness. The Triplock winding crown and helium escape valve ensure optimal protection for the movement. The Oyster bracelet, equipped with the Oysterlock folding safety clasp and Glidelock extension system, provides both security and comfort.

As with all Rolex watches, the Oyster Perpetual Rolex Deepsea is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification, ensuring exceptional performance on the wrist. This certification, redefined by Rolex in 2015, guarantees precision, power reserve, waterproofness, and self-winding capabilities, with a precision rate of −2/+2 seconds per day.
