Hyster-Yale Group plans to manufacture container handlers in China at the Fuyang site, aiming to enhance global market responsiveness. reach stacker operator training

Hyster-Yale Group has announced it will be building container handlers in China, expanding its sourcing options to better meet the needs of the global market.

The company expects its RS45 reach stackers and empty container handlers (ECHs) to be sourced from production locations in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and Fuyang, China, starting in 2024.

Hyster acquired the Fuyang site in 2017 when it purchased 75% of Zhejiang Maximal Forklift Company for US$90m.

Recently, significant changes have occurred at TIL (formerly Tractors India), which produces Hyster container handlers under licence in India. TIL has lost market share in India recently, mostly to Sany, which has sold machines to major operator Concor, among others.

In January, Gainwell Group acquired a dominant stake in TIL through its Indocrest Defence Solutions Private Limited. The new TIL management plans a two-year revitalisation, focusing on operational efficiency, capacity utilisation, and enhancing customer support with Gainwell’s aftermarket practices.

The company aims to boost the manufacturing and distribution of Hyster products, particularly in the reach stacker segment, to regain market dominance.

Rajiv Prasad, the Hyster-Yale President and CEO, stated: “We look forward to a strong turnaround for TIL in the days ahead. Hyster remains confident that the long-standing partnership between Hyster and TIL will reach new heights. Hyster-Yale Group is committed to working with TIL in its speedy ramp-up, supporting our mission of providing ‘optimal solutions’ to solve customers’ toughest problems.”
