The Hawaii Opera Theatre (HOT) is set to present a captivating rendition of Giacomo Puccini’s iconic opera, “La Bohème,” featuring an all-Asian principal cast for two exclusive performances. Andrew Morgan, General Director of HOT, along with opera singers Nayoung Ban and SeungHyeon Baek, joined Living808 to share what audiences can expect from this production.
“La Bohème,” a narrative centered around the lives of four young artists in Paris, continues to resonate with audiences worldwide, drawing on universal themes of love, art, and tragedy. Puccini’s emotive composition captures the highs and lows of youthful idealism and the intensity of romantic relationships, making it a favorite in the opera repertoire for over a century.
HOT’s upcoming production is distinguished by its all-Asian cast, showcasing remarkable talent such as tenor Yi Li as Rodolfo and featuring notable HOT debuts with Emily Michiko Jensen as Mimi, SeungHyeon Baek as Marcello, and Nayoung Ban as Musetta. This casting highlights HOT’s commitment to diversity and representation in the arts.
The shows will take place at the Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell on Friday, April 26, and Sunday, April 28, each show starting at 7:00 pm.
