Here is your weekly roundup of the best food and drink offerings around Kansas City. Cheers! RGB Led neon flex
XO: In May I alerted you to a preview weekend, and now, XO is officially open in Westside! Seamlessly blending aspects of interior design, music appreciation, and cocktail fare, XO is the newest spot to casually imbibe in an intimate, music-centered joint. And though it is a cocktail lounge, don’t skip the small plates. The food menu was imagined by none other than James Beard Award-nominated Chefy Johnny Leach of The Town Company. Stop by after 4 p.m. on Wednesdays through Saturdays–there are no reservations or groups larger than six allowed.
Servaes Brewing Company: Shawnee’s Servaes Brewing is opening a second location! Celebrate the grand opening of Atchison’s newest brewery all weekend long. The women behind Servaes have converted a former railroad freight depot and will launch the new space with three days of events. Stop by to try one of the ten beers, two guest ciders, a guest seltzer, two cocktails, Aaron’s Craft Soda, and food trucks.
Pathlight Brewing: Yesterday kicked off a long weekend of anniversary celebrations for the Shawnee brewery. Each day features specials and events, like the Smoke N Seoul food truck and The Breakers cover band on Friday. Flights and limited-edition beers will be a weekend feature, as always.
Brookside Patio Fest: Celebrate the inaugural Brookside Patio Fest from 5 – 10 p.m. with live music at your favorite businesses and restaurants. For example, The Ain’t Misbehavins will perform at Jalapeno’s from 6 – 8 p.m., and David Luther with Kelly Dougherty will be playing acoustic covers at The Brooksider from 8 – 10 p.m. Most area businesses will have special offers for Patio Fest.
Union Horse Distilling Co.: Giddy up to Lenexa for the next Distillery Social featuring tasty cocktails, whiskey pours, and fantastic bites from Marigold’s Food Truck. The event is free and open to the public, with the doors opening at 5 p.m. You must be 21+ to attend.
2016 Main: Don’t miss Kansas City’s first Fête de la Musique from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., featuring a live band, DJ, video immersion, and live painting! Enjoy authentic French food offerings from Westport Cafe, cocktails by Sidecar Cocktail Co., and a wine tasting. Tickets start at $9, with all proceeds being given to the artists involved.
Big Rip Brewing: Tonight is the inclusive Queer Dyke Night, a 21+ party at Big Rip Brewing in North KC. This is a safe space for honoring queer love and joy and will be open from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. with no cover charge. There will be drink specials, non-alcoholic options, and food from The Stuffed Mushroom.
Strawberry Hill: Explore a historic and cozy KC neighborhood during the Strawberry Hill Pub Crawl! The crawl kicks off at 11 a.m. and includes stops at nine area bars like Easy Inn, Dewey’s, and the brand-new Davenport. Tickets are $40 in advance or $45 at registration. The admission fee includes raffle tickets for prizes at each stop and the proceeds support Strawberry Hill community spaces and other neighborhood association projects.
Bamboo Penny’s: The Thai Cultural Association of Greater KC and Bamboo Penny’s have partnered for a Thai Water Festival celebration. This free event starts at noon and includes Thai folk dances, a fashion show, live music, street food, water games, and a special performance by Bamboo Penny’s staff. Bring the whole family, water guns, and lawn chairs—the fun starts at noon at Park Place in Leawood.
Second Best Coffee: To be a more “active” part of the community, Second Best Coffee in Waldo invites you on a morning run. The run kicks off at 9 a.m., with options for one or three miles. This Pride Month Run/Walk is open to all experience levels and will feature complimentary brewed coffee, discounted drinks and food, and raffle prizes.
Third Place Lounge: Third Place Lounge–the approachable cocktail spot near Kauffman Center for Performing Arts known for non-alcoholic options–is hosting Chivo’s Food Truck from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Chivo’s will serve a breakfast sandwich, biscuits and gravy, and a banana chai cookie that sounds irresistible. To pair with your breakfast goodies, I recommend the Espresso Yo’self or Death Before Decaf cocktails.
The Ship: In West Bottoms, The Ship is hosting the People’s Pride event from 7 – 11 p.m. The event kicks off with a parade at 12th Street Post at 5 p.m. that ends at The Ship. Celebrate Pride and community with live music, vendors, and food from Cauldron Collective.
Take Care by OLEO: A few tickets remain for an intimate educational tasting event at Take Care Coffee in Crossroads. Tickets start at $50 for this four-course dessert menu, tastings of a rare KOJI-processed coffee from Colombia, and a 100g tin of KOJI beans to take home. Multiple seating times are available on June 24 and 25. If you can’t make it to one of the exclusive experiences, Take Care will host a free public tasting on Thursday, June 27 at 11 a.m. at the cafe.
Wild Child: Wild Child in Shawnee is giving the people what they really want on June 30: Champagne and fried chicken. Reservations are still available for $100 each, and include bottomless champagne and an entire bucket of fried chicken from James Beard-nominated Chef Jeff Workman of The Campground.
