We hate to tell you this, but not even the most gorgeous paint color on this planet will disguise those ugly white light switches. There are a bunch of ways to go about disguising them—match the plates to your wall covering, install fancy push switches—but the lowest-lift solution is to replace the apparatus altogether. Sadly, beautifully designed light switches (the ones that include plates and toggles versus just the former) aren't that common in the United States. However, there are a couple diamonds in the rough out there. Our favorites are Forbes & Lomax, a British light switch manufacturer that is now available stateside, and Matureware, a hardware company from Japan. See our picks from their collections, below. If you're handy, you can do the switcheroo (pun absolutely intended) yourself, or an electrician can make quick work of the task. Either way, your freshly painted walls will thank you.
