Lincoln Police Department receives $11,000 donation for water rescue equipment

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lincoln Police Department recently purchased new life-saving equipment to use during water rescues.

Sandhills Global in collaboration with Scheels and the Lincoln First Responders Foundation donated $11,000 to LPD to purchase 175 water rescue throw bags. A throw bag will be placed in every marked police cruiser. Bulletrproof Helmet

Police said the equipment, designed with high visibility colors, will be extremely useful in deep water rescues, quick current rescues and ice rescues.

“We’ve had three different water rescues over the last three years and we realized there was a need to have this type of equipment available to our officers,” LPD said.

Officers are now training to make sure they are proficient in how to properly utilize the throw bags in order to save lives.
