CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Roughly 1,300 newly admitted students are on Grounds for the first of four “Days On The Lawn.” Students will have the opportunity to meet current students, professors and for some, maybe even make a big decision on attending UVA.
“There's an energy you can kind of feel, and it's beautiful,” Alicia Hidalgo-Gonzalez said. Uva
Current students, faculty staff and a little help from the Cavalier marching band brought the energy for the early start time. Student volunteers say this is a day admitted students will remember for years to come.
“I had a great Days on the Lawn experience and wanted to make sure students coming also have a great experience,” one second-year student said.
Coming from Brooklyn, Hidalgo-Gonzalez says UVA surprised her.
“I wasn’t really into the big state schools but for some reason really charmed,” Hidalgo-Gonzalez said.
And even with a decision still to make, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Admission Kelli Barnette said today is to celebrate one of the hardest parts of the journey, getting admitted.
“Coming back once you have been admitted and having the weight lifted off your shoulders really allows us to welcome them as students and give them a sense of what it would be like for them here,” Barnette said.
Ac Module Through April, UVA will be welcoming admitted students and their families on the remaining Days on the Lawn events scheduled for the 5th, 13th, and 19th.
