EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - One of the largest energy infrastructure companies in the U.S. is rolling out plans for a $3 billion, multi-state expansion of the natural gas pipeline.
When looking at the blueprint of this proposed project it is noticeable that the effects of Coastal Georgia are relatively minimal, but there are some impacts in places like Rincon in Effingham County. 3lpe Pipe

As the county grows, the needs grow including the need for natural gas. Allen Fore, Vice President of Kinder Morgan, says that this project isn’t anything new for Effingham just bigger.
“We aren’t building anything new to compressor stations but we are adding to, so the one we have here in Effingham County is going to be getting an upgrade,” said Fore.
The project is being called the South System Expansion 4 and will stretch Across Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. The project will consist of 14 new pipelines to carry natural gas across those southern states.
“The bulk of the work will be north of here but you also have the benefits of the natural gas because what happens here in Effingham County will contribute to the overall success of the project,” said Fore.
This is not Kinder Morgan’s first run-in with the Coastal Empire when the companies proposed Palmetto Pipelines back in 2015, the project was met with major pushback from residents. But Fore says that this project is completely different.
“It is an entirely different project, Palmetto was a petroleum pipeline on a brand new route,” said Fore.
This project plans to follow the route of pipelines already placed.
If approved the construction will begin in 2027.
