A 2024 Mack Truck Tractor pulling a gravel side dump trailer rolled over after allegedly failing to negotiate a curve turning off of Richland County Highway 21, two miles southwest of Hankinson, at approximately 11:25 a.m. Thursday, May 2.
Justin Pond, 34, from Milbank, South Dakota, was the driver and sustained serious but non life threatening injuries, according to a press release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Pond was transported by ambulance to Sanford Hospital.
Road conditions were wet, but good, according to the release, and the atmosphere was cloudy and rainy. Pond was traveling westbound on Richland County Highway 21. When he was turning off onto 94th ½ Ave. SE, he allegedly failed to correctly negotiate the curve and entered the north ditch.
According to the release, when entering the ditch, the truck and trailer rolled over onto its roof. Pond was wearing a seatbelt. No charges were filed, but Pond was cited for allegedly failing to maintain his lane of travel.
Agencies involved included the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Richland County Sheriff’s Office and Hankinson Fire and Ambulance.
