Several York County fire chiefs say drivers need to be more aware.
The warning comes after some recent incidents. Over the weekend, at least two cars were spotted driving over lines in Stewartstown where firefighters were battling a six-alarm fire at a vacant factory.
It was caught on camera. The Eureka Volunteer Fire Company posted it on their Facebook page.
York Fire Chief William Sleeger said driving over the line will disrupt the water supply, allowing fires to spread. He also said firefighters can get dragged down the street.
"We have had many people hurt because the hose can get hooked on a car and guys getting pulled down the street," said Sleeger.
Violators can be cited by the police. They may also have to pay for a replacement fire hose.
A 100-foot section costs about $800 to replace.
It may be common sense, but Sleeger says people are still doing it.
The York chief said a mass transit bus drove over an active line about two weeks ago.
