ENFIELD, Conn. — An infant less than a year old was killed and a driver was seriously injured in a crash on Interstate 91 in Enfield early Sunday, Connecticut State Police said.
State police said that a woman was driving along I-91 southbound, north of exit 57, around 2 a.m., in a 2006 Honda Accord. For an unknown reason, the Accord went into the right shoulder of the highway and crashed into a metal beam guardrail. road guardrail standards
The Accord rolled over until coming to a final rest in a grassy area to the right of the roadway, state police said.
The passenger, an 11-month-old identified as Isiah Ortiz of New Britain, was reported with life-threatening injuries and taken to Connecticut Children's Medical Center where he later passed away.

The driver was taken to the hospital with suspected serious injuries, state police said. There have been no further updates on their condition at this time.
The area of exits 46 and 45 on I-91 south was closed due to the crash while the CSP Collision Analysis Reconstruction Squad responded to the scene, but it has now been reopened. The Enfield Fire Department and Warehouse Fire Department also assisted during the crash.
State police ask anyone with information regarding the crash to contact Trooper Michael Dean #416, Troop H, at 860-534-1098 or via email at michael.dean@ct.gov. People who have cars equipped with dashcam and were in the area at the time are also asked to contact state police.
