Skip the total reno and take these budget-friendly steps instead!
Upgrading your kitchen or bathroom doesn’t mean you have to gut the space entirely. In fact, there are a few budget-friendly ways you can refresh and renew the space for very little money! Woman’s World connected with home renovation experts to get the inside scoop on upgrading kitchens and bathrooms — two of the most costly rooms to renovate in the home — without having to completely rip the room down to the studs. Find out what they had to say, plus the Amazon retailer where you can buy beautiful door knobs, handles, and other hardware to make upgrading your kitchen or bathroom fast, easy, and affordable.
If your kitchen or bathroom has good bones, you may not need to gut it entirely. There are lots of ways you can renew the look and feel of the space without rip out the existing cabinets, appliances, and the like.
“When upgrading in your kitchen and bathrooms, you don’t need to replace the cabinets,” Scot McCabe, owner of CertaPro Painters of South Metro, tells Woman’s World. “You can paint them!“
“Hire a professional who can enamel the cabinet doors, drawers, and cabinet bases,” McCabe adds. “This adds an entire new look to your space. You can go with traditional contemporary white or add a splash of color. If your ceilings are the old popcorn style, these can be scraped and converted to a flat surface or the knockdown texture.”
Paint is a simple and cost-effective way to completely transform a space. Even if you’re paying professionals to paint the space or cabinets for you, you’re still spending exponentially less than you would spend on an entire kitchen or bathroom remodel.
That’s not all — McCabe has another budget-friendly way to refresh your kitchen or bathroom. Swapping old or outdated towel racks and hardware is another affordable way to upgrade your kitchen or bathroom. “Take them down, have the professions repair the holes, then repaint the whole room,” says McCabe. “Make sure you use a high-quality paint and sheen that can withstand higher moisture in these rooms as well as adding a more washable surface!“
Divya Kambhoj, owner and interior designer of Ivish Interiors, concurs. She knows how costly a full-scale kitchen or bathroom remodel can be — not to mention time-consuming! “Small changes, like updating doorknobs, cabinet handles, towel hooks, and paint color, are cost-effective ways to transform your home’s look and feel without undertaking a major renovation,” Kambhoj says.
Wondering where to start? “Modern, sleek designs can make your space feel contemporary, while vintage styles can add charm and character,” Kambhoj adds. “With a wide variety of designs and finishes available, you can easily find hardware that complements your existing décor, personalizes your taste, and breathes new life into your home.”
Kambhoj also suggests considering ergonomic shapes, which enhance functionality and make daily use more convenient, when shopping for kitchen and bathroom drawer and cabinet pulls. “Upgrading to high-quality materials and consistent finishes is key to achieving a cohesive look that reflects a well-maintained home and provides a noticeable boost to its overall appeal and usability,” the interior designer explains.

Customers Approve! “I am in the process of changing out ALL of my hardware for ancient brushed chrome to all black to match my modern farmhouse theme. The hardest area find a piece to match the theme was my garage to kitchen entry door. I had a locking door knob and never used it, but I did NOT want a flimsy passage door knob that had the potential of being easily ripped off. This lever passage door is amazing and SUBSTANTIAL. It is by far the heaviest door mechanism I have ever installed and you can tell it is a very strong, solid and expensive addition to my door. While the manufacturer did not list this security fire door as an option for a passage lever, I love it exactly where it is because the majority of the time my family is home, this door stays unlocked (and as you can see, I haven’t swapped out the deadbolt to a black one yet). I love the design of this handle and I am thrilled at how easy it was to install while at the same time feeling like I have a very strong device accenting my little hallway! Worth every penny!“

Customers Approve! “Great quality and durable door handle. The appearance is beautiful and sleek. I purchased the door knob with the privacy lock and it works great. This door knob is expensive but worth the price if you want something that will last. The installation was easy due to my contractor installing it.“

Customers Approve! “It’s a little on the pricey side but it’s worth the money. This handle has a nice weight to it, which makes it feel very sturdy. It won’t come off in your hand after many uses. I bought four for my hallway closets. Looks great and works even better.”
