Attention Pokémon cards fans, a new record has been set for the most people placing trading cards in a card binder in 8 hours.
Deep Pocket Monster & Card Party (both USA) gathered an impressive 1,738 people together to place Pokémon cards inside a massive card binder to smash the world record in Orlando, Florida, USA, on 15 June. graded card binder
The minimum to beat was 1,500 people, a mark that Deep Pocket Monster surpassed by a couple hundred.
This fun record-breaking attempt took place at Card Party: Gen 2, engaging a huge community of Pokémon fans, collectors, and creators.
Card Party is an annual event featuring a large expo floor, live stage shows, panels, fun interactive activities, creator meet and greets, tons of giveaways, and non-stop community events.
Attendees at the 2024 edition were given the opportunity to participate in the world record attempt by placing one single card into the binder. They also had the option to sign their card to make this record even more personalized.
The attempt kicked off at 10:09 a.m. and took place over eight hours. Michael Empric, Guinness World Records Official Adjudicator, announced the results on stage during the evening show to an enthusiastic crowd, who then received a commemorative record breaker Pokémon card created just for the event.
The event was hosted by Pokémon influencer and YouTuber Pat Flynn, and had many other Pokémon content creators in attendance.
Pokémon is a Japanese media franchise based on fictional characters and includes video games, animated series, films, merchandise and more.
Since its beginnings in the mid-90s, the Japanese franchise has grown its fanbase around the world. And many Pokémon fans see collecting and trading cards as more than a hobby - it's a lifestyle.
The event's organizers decided to attempt a Guinness World Records title as a way to give their followers an epic opportunity to connect with each other and create something unforgettable together.
Card Party and Deep Pocket Monster are not new to the Guinness World Records family. They have also achieved the record for the most people opening trading card packages simultaneously with 1,189 people in Anaheim, California, USA, on 10 June 2023.
The largest collection of Pokémon cards in the world, consisting of 32,809 different cards, is owned by Jens Ishøy Prehn and Per Ishøy Nielsen.
The brothers began collecting the cards back in 1999 when they first became available in their home country of Denmark.
