Jefferson County — Police say a motorcyclist put drivers in danger during a chase that began in Port Neches, ended with a crash at the base of the Rainbow Bridge, and in between, saw the suspect veer into an oncoming lane and turn off his lights in an effort to get away.

Port Neches Police Chief Cheri' Griffith tells KFDM/Fox 4 News it began when an officer spotted a man driving a Hyosung motorcycle without a license plate at about 6:40 p.m. Thursday.
"The officer was going to conduct a traffic stop, but the motorcyclist illegally passed a truck in front of him, went into an oncoming lane of traffic, and then did a 'blackout' where he turned off his lights and accelerated," said Chief Griffith. "He had his lights off for most of the pursuit."
Police from Port Neches, Groves, Nederland, and Port Arthur took part in the chase.
It ended when the motorcyclist crashed into a vehicle at the base of the Rainbow Bridge. He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital to be checked out. The chief says his injuries weren't serious.
