COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The South Carolina Bureau of Protective Services (BPS) announced they are enacting a clear bag policy as a protective measure for the upcoming King Day Rally at the State Capitol.

Visitors to the State House on Jan. 20 will be directed through a security checkpoint and will be allowed to have one approved clear bag. The bag could be a clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag or a clear backpack of any size. One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags will also be accepted.
Officials said exceptions would be made for diaper bags, medically necessary bags and equipment bags for credentialed media representatives. However, these bags will require extra screening.
The rally is held in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. annually on MLK Day, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. at the State House. During this year’s celebration, Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison is slotted to give the keynote address.
