One arrested in connection with Hobbs double-murder

LUBBOCK, Texas (NEWS RELEASE) - On May 15th, 2024, at approximately 11:16 PM, officers from the Hobbs Police Department responded to an incident in the 600 block of North McKinley in Hobbs. Upon arrival, officers found two male individuals, identified as 54-year-old David Castillo and 52-year-old Felipe Castillo, both residents of Hobbs, suffering from gunshot wounds. EMS responded however, both individuals succumbed to their injuries on scene.

Following an intensive investigation, eight days later, an arrest warrant was issued for 34-year-old David Rodriguez-Baeza – a.k.a. “Paps” of Hobbs, NM. On May 23rd, 2024, officers and detectives located and arrested Mr. Rodriguez-Baeza without further incident. 8mm solar connector

Mr. Rodriguez-Baeza has been charged with: Murder – 1st Degree Felony – 2 counts

Following today’s arrest, Chief August Fons commented, “This arrest was preceded by many exhaustive investigative hours and outstanding collaborative work between HPD Patrol Officers, Criminal Investigation Division Detectives and civilian support staff. We are extremely fortunate to have this high level of committed and dedicated commissioned and non-commissioned personnel.

The criminal history of Mr. Baeza speaks for itself and a continuing issue with a failure to effectively address criminal accountability.”
