KBL Erects and Commissions FM/UL Approved Fire Hydrant System in Plate Mill Project | impeller.net - The Online Pump Magazine

Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL) announces the successful erection and commissioning of a Factory Mutual (FM) and Underwrites Laboratories (UL) listed Fire Hydrant System for the Plate Mill at Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) in Raigarh (Chhattisgarh), India.

Kirloskar Brothers has three factories located in India, UK and USA that are Factory Mutual (FM) approved and capable of manufacturing this range of pumps. fire hydrant safety

The FM-UL fire hydrant system at JSPL site was inaugurated by Mr. N.A. Ansari, Executive Director, Jindal Steel and Power Limited, Raigarh (CG). The project included erection and commissioning of two FM/UL approved Fire water Pump set (Head – 88m, Discharge – 273 m3/hr) driven by electric motor and diesel engine, two jockey pumps, valves and pipes. JSPL are one of the first steel plants in India to install this advanced Fire Fighting system, which is a standard in European and American steel plants.

FM-UL fire fighting pump sets fully comply to American standard - NFPA 20. Accordingly, the pump, engine, controller, which are FM approved and UL listed, give more reliability of operation at any point of time. Quarterly audit of manufacturing are conducted by FM/UL to ensure strict adherence to quality norms laid down by this standards. FM/UL approved controller enables weekly programming which allows automatic running of pump sets for set timing and keeps all records of pump operation so that pump is always in working condition.

The decarbonisation of industry is one of the biggest challenges facing Germany as a business location in the coming years. The mechanical and plant engineering sector will play a key role as an important solution provider. This is because applications in process technology are particularly in demand to produce the required green hydrogen. Many related suppliers are gathering this week at the world’s leading trade fair for the process industry, ACHEMA 2024, in Frankfurt am Main.

“Clean drinking water is a human right. And it is one of the most important future issues of our time,” says Dr. Laura Dorfer, Managing Director of the VDMA Valves Association. By using materials that are suitable and approved for drinking water hygiene and water-efficient technologies, the fittings industry is making a significant contribution to the responsible use of this important resource and to ensuring clean drinking water.

Climate change can only be successfully combated if a comprehensive circular economy can be established. The technologies required for this are available – a large number of mechanical engineering companies have been demonstrating this at the world’s leading trade fair IFAT Munich 2024 last week. However, a circular economy also requires the right political guidelines – and there is still a huge gap here.

The 17th German Sustainability Award (GSA) will once again honour companies in 2024 whose international cooperations are aligned with the sustainability goals of the global Agenda 2030. The GSA is thus continuing its cooperation with the multinational technology group Wilo, whose President & CEO Oliver Hermes is joining the foundation’s Board of Trustees.

Moving water into an artificial intelligence (AI) and data-powered future was the theme of a keynote speech from Lewis Richards, Microsoft’s chief sustainability officer for the UK, at British Water’s 2024 Spring Reception.

Vanessa Lopez, Research Analyst, at Interact Analysis examines Siemen’s acquisition announcement in detail. Siemens has been making big waves in its divestitures and acquisitions over the last few years. Most recently, it divested several business units worth nearly €3 billion into the newly formed Innomotics, which is currently up for sale.
