Plus, when it comes to summertime weather, a breathable polo shirt will provide style and comfort — especially if you plan on hitting the golf course.

They also look superb with your finest dress pants (or jeans, depending on the occasion), will instantly make you look like a GQ model when paired with a sharp watch, and make any pair of chinos look good in the warmer months.

To help you feel good all season long, we’ve consulted Catherine Bibeau, a renowned fashion stylist with over a decade of experience in the industry. Bibeau has corralled the best men’s polo from brands like Amazon, J. Crew, Bonobos, and more. Whether you’re holding golf accessories or your work backpack, these tops are on our A-list.

No matter if you plan on working on your golf game or just need to update your summer wardrobe, we kept all the style preferences and budgets in mind — from dri-fit to slim-fit, rugby to even long-sleeve.

Take a look below to shop some of our favorite men’s polo shirts for all types of wear Or, if you’re looking for more style advice, jump right down to our interview with Bibeau.

The retailer’s classic Essentials line has a well-made polo available in a variety of hues for your wardrobe. It’s less than $20, has a classic cut that looks great with your favorite leather belt, and even offers UPF protection.

“I love this lightweight, breathable performance polyester fabric because it’s ideal for activities such as tennis and hiking that can transition to an evening out with friends. You can dress it up or keep it casual!” Bibeau pointed out.

Nobody makes polos like — well, Polo itself. Shop this Classic-Fit Soft Cotton Polo Shirt and enjoy a range of shades like this rich sky blue color as well as a soft structure and traditional three-button placket.

“I love a true American-style polo,” Bibeau said. “It’s an iconic original since 1972! It’s also made with durable fabric like cotton interlock with an ultra-soft finish. The Ralph Lauren logo is something to be proud of, representing such a high-class brand image.”

A charcoal shirt + khaki pants = a handsome look. Bonobos’ Jetsetter Performance Polo is the next breathable top you’ll wear year-long, especially because the material is known to resist pilling over time. Choose whichever color piques your fancy and look sharp for your next occasion with this selection.

“A downside to this polo is its tendency to require ironing for a sleek look, which may not work for every man. But, the luxurious feel and refined appearance of this cotton blend, is crafted with DRYTEX® fabric which makes it an ideal piece for the active guy – moisture wicking, sweat management, UV protection (UPF 35), and breathability,” Bibeau shared.

Add a subtle pop of color to your otherwise neutral outfit with Barbour’s Corpatch Polo Shirt. Just shy of $100, the brand’s signature plaid elevates the look from the atypical polo design (which is on the pocket and the placket) — making it 100% worth it. And, it’s 100% cotton.

“The chest button-patched plaid pocket is like a lookalike for Burberry, which may create confusion as a fashion detail,” Bibeau clarified. “But, love the short sleeves as it makes this piece a bit more youthful!”

If you’re not keen on logos or detailed frills on your wear-all-the-time polo, then you’re in luck. Goodfellow & Co. has a short sleeve polo shirt that’s, much to our approval, less than $20. It looks great, feels great and makes the perfect gift for any guy you know.

“This Target polo is such a great find, and you would never guess how low the price is,” said Bibeau. “For just $12, this polo features a fade-resistant and lightweight fabric making the wearer stress-free. I’d also take this for vacationing because you can casually wear it and fully enjoy your days without stressing about its luxurious value.”

Add a touch of prep in your step with Xtapan’s Cotton Long-Sleeve Polo Shirt. Especially great for transitional seasons, it has a lovely caramel color we adore and a flattering to-the-body fit. Oh, and you’ll want to pick it up in more than its dozen shade selections, too.

“It’s great as a long-sleeve polo—no pilling, shrinking, wrinkling, or static,” shared Bibeau. “Very easy to maintain! It has a great cut, suitable for being tucked or untucked for both business or casual wear. Comfortable with 5% spandex incorporated with 95% cotton.”

Amp up the colors in your wardrobe with Chaps’ Classic-Fit Polo. It comes in other colors, too, but we couldn’t resist featuring this bold red that looks dynamite with jeans. Plus, it’s made with moisture-wicking material and has an extensive size range.

“A great classic addition to your wardrobe on a budget – but be cautious as it tends to shrink significantly if dried in the drying machine,” warned BiBeau. “Nonetheless, the polo offers a good fit, quality material, and exceptional comfort.”

If you love the look of short-sleeve tops made by none other than Polo Ralph Lauren, you’ll love its Long-Sleeve Mesh Polo Shirt all the same. Its relaxed fit makes it ideal for work or a night out, and the traditional Polo blue looks complimentary on any skin tone.

“One of my favorite long sleeves! I love the luxurious casual look of the mesh, and the logo serves as an iconic detail in white – it’s timeless and elegant,” said BiBeau.

Lacoste is one of the leading brands as far as men’s polos go, and we deem its Classic Cotton Piqué Fashion Polo Shirt the very best. Not only does its handsome olive green look pair extremely well with the alligator logo, but its 100% cotton make is that high-quality characteristic we look for.

“The crocodile—always a pleasure to wear! Its embroidered logo speaks volumes; a product made in France offering true quality that lasts, whether for a prestigious sporty look or everyday wear,” noted Bibeau.

With a finely stitched striped design and solid-colored overlay at the sleeves and collar, Bonobos’ Stretch Pique Polo is the ideal top to buy if you want a more unique style in your wardrobe. The color selection is endless and the brand is one of our favorites for men’s blazers.

“Although the material is super thin, you can wear this under a blazer or jacket for a sophisticated layering style for spring,” suggested Bibeau. “It’s a nice product, a simple yet practical purchase. Great to have as a quality basic without displaying any logos.

Nautica’s Sustainably Crafted Classic-Fit Deck Polo Shirt is one of the most basic yet quality designs that’s worth the pick-me-up. As its name suggests, it’s nautical-leaning and fabulous for your next boating trip. Plus, the color selection is great (and perhaps will inspire you to grab more than one!)

“Great for everyday wear at a fantastic price. This product exudes classic and effortless style, offering superb comfort during summertime outdoor adventures. Its versatile fit and sleeve length makes it suitable for any age group. It’s a brand that I truly love,” Bibeau added.

Namely, this polo is a must-have. Goodfellow & Co.’s Short-Sleeve Polo Shirt is a great one to keep on deck for the sweet days of summer. It comes in plus sizes, has a single-welt pocket, and — drumroll please — is budget-friendly.

“The trimmed collared neckline with front buttons adds a classic but stylish touch to the look. At this low price, you could never tell that it’s budget-friendly,” Bibeua shared. “This colorway is also extremely versatile making it easy to pair with a variety of bottoms.”

If you’re trying to stay ahead of the fashion trends this summer, Bibeau suggests going with a light blue color. This polo from Lacoste is offered in eight separate shades of blue, so you’re sure to find one you love.

“Light blue T01 is a fantastic polo!” Bibeau said. “The soft pastel color is very much on-trend and elegant for the 2024 summer season. Made from 100% cotton.”

Nike customers love the cut and comfort of this polo, and so does Bibeau. The relaxed shape is ideal for a more laidback look, but it can also be easily dressed up with the right outfit. The signature Nike logo is sure to get some nods — it’s easy, cool, and casual.

“A timeless style, crafted from ultrasoft cotton, this polo offers a classic look with a modern edge,” said Bibeau. “Perfect for versatile styling, whether it’s a casual day out or a more formal occasion. Its comfortable fit and soft fabric ensure you’ll look and feel great wherever you go!”

For a luxury splurge, the expert suggests considering a classic polo from Burberry. This basic white top is a high-end piece that pairs with just about anything, so you’ll get plenty of wear out of it. The form-flattering cut also molds to a variety of body types.

“The plaid collar is on-trend! Bibeau highlighted. “This polo features a slim fit that is true to size, made from 100% cotton piqué for comfort and style.”

Achieve the timeless all-American look with this charming striped polo. The classic, loose profile makes for a comfortable fit and hits right below the waist, so you can wear it tucked in or out. Bibeau predicts stripes will be having a major moment this summer — so now is your chance to get ahead of the trend.

“Stripes are in style this summer, with brands like Levi’s making a big comeback! It’s a fantastic choice for a smart-casual look,” stated Bibeau.

Bring your best game with IZOD’s Title Holder Polo. This polo has all the golfing must-haves: stretch fabric, sun control, and moisture-wicking construction. IZOD has also engineered this shirt with a brilliant flexible shoulder seam that moves with your swing for a full range of motion.

The modern collar and charming Oxford print will surely make you stand out from the crowd. But, the stylish design isn’t all this polo has to offer. The special side venting and trademarked Iso-Chill fabric from Under Armour work together to disperse body heat, keeping you cool, dry, and looking your best.

Those seeking the soft, velvety texture of silk may consider this elegant garment from Hugo Boss. This piece is designed with all the right details; a class flat-knit collar, three buttons, short sleeves, and a blend of cotton and silk for a luxurious feel. It screams boss energy.

If you’re planning to hit the golf course or participate in any other outdoor activities this summer, it’s important to find a flexible, breathable, and moisture-wicking polo. Tommy Hilfiger’s Wicking Polo fits the part. The moisture-wicking fabric keeps your skin dry, and the signature stripe tipping keeps you looking sleek all day long.

“The preppy classics!” emphasized Bebeau. “Choose from short sleeves for warmer days or long sleeves for cooler nights, available in a variety of solid colors. Perfect for effortlessly elevating your wardrobe with timeless style and comfort.”

When it comes to fabric, there is one that Bibeau swears by. “The best summer polo shirts should be made of fine piqué from 100% organic cotton to guarantee breathability, softness, and sustainability,” she suggested.

Bibeau has pointed out some of her favorite shades for summer in the product recommendations, but she also suggests looking for colors that react well to the sun.

“It’s advisable to choose your polo in white or light colors to reflect the sun instead of absorbing it, ensuring you stay cool and comfortable in the summer heat,” she explained.
