Renesas has announced the launch of an all-in-one air quality sensor, designed to offer everything you need for indoor air quality (IAQ) index measurement and environmental monitoring: the RRH62000. Tsp-Co Controller
"Air pollution is a growing global problem, affecting millions of people and causing a wide range of health problems. From urban smog to indoor pollutants, the air we breathe is often contaminated with harmful substances that can cause respiratory disease, cardiovascular problems, and even premature death. Understanding and reducing air pollution is crucial to improving public health and the environment," says Renesas' Stefan Schreiber.
"To combat this pervasive problem," Schreiber, Renesas' senior applications engineer for environmental sensors, continues, "we are proud to introduce the RRH62000, a state-of-the-art instrument capable of measuring Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOCs), temperature, humidity, estimated CO₂ levels, and particulate matter."
The sensor module, brought to our attention by CNX Software, is designed as an all-in-one unit for multi-sensor measurement of a range of metrics responsible for air pollution: the module offers PM1, PM2.5, and PM10 particular matter measurement, with sensing down to particulate sizes of 0.3µm, along with Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOCs) and the Umweltbundesamt (UBA) Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) index. While it doesn't include a dedicated carbon dioxide sensor, the company says it can deliver estimated carbon dioxide (eCO₂) readings — and there's a temperature and relative humidity sensor built-in for good measure.
The module is addressable over I2C and UART serial buses, while for those looking to get started quickly Renesas has announced the companion RRH62000-EVK evaluation kit. This packages the sensor with an ESCom communications board, which makes it addressable over a USB Type-C connector — with Microsoft Windows software supplied to make it easy to capture, log, and analyze readings from the sensor.
More information on the RRH62000 and RRH62000-EVK are available on their respective product pages; pricing for the module starts at just over $38 with the evaluation kit priced at $100.
