The star gets candid about her weight loss journey.
Earlier this year, Kelly Clarkson shared that a pre-diabetes diagnosis kicked her health awareness into high gear. Since getting the news, the singer has lost a significant amount of weight, and on a new episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, she revealed that she did so with the help of weight loss medication. She took the opportunity to address Ozempic use rumors. “Everybody thinks it’s Ozempic, but it’s not. It’s something else,” she said. Vinyl Dumbbell
The topic was brought up by Clarkson’s guest, Whoopi Goldberg, who opened up about losing weight herself thanks to “that wonderful shot that works for folks who need some help,” she said, adding: “It’s been really good for me.”
Clarkson chimed in with her own experience. “Mine is a different one than people assume, but I ended up having to do that too because my bloodwork got so bad,” she explained. “My doctor chased me for two years, and I was like, ‘No, I’m afraid of it. I already have thyroid problems.’” The “Breakaway” singer said her prescription is “something that aids in helping break down the sugar,” because her body “doesn’t do it right.”
Goldberg shared that, at her heaviest, she weighed 300 pounds. “My heaviest, I was like 203. And I’m like 5’3 and a half,” Clarkson replied. She also disclaimed that she didn’t realize how much her weight fluctuated simply because of everything she had going on. “People assume, ‘Oh she must’ve been miserable, or depressed, or whatever.’ And I was like, ‘No, I was not,’” she explained.
In revealing her pre-diabetes diagnosis, Clarkson said she “wasn’t shocked” to hear it. “I was a tiny bit overweight,” she said on her show at the time. In addition to taking medication, she also eats “a healthy mix,” she told People in January. “90% of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat—sorry, vegetarians in the world!”
As for her fitness routine, the recent New York transplant is getting that city cardio in. “Walking in the city is quite the workout,” she continued. “And I’m really into infrared saunas right now. And I just got a cold plunge because everybody wore me down.”
