Score discounted woven baskets, lift-top coffee tables, and floating shelves during Amazon’s Big Spring Sale. living room wall cabinets with doors
Let’s face it: Your living room is the one place you can lounge, eat, sleep, and play, making it the most versatile space in your home. Because you’re spending so much time here, you might have a bit of clutter lying around, too. To remedy the messy situation, we chatted with professional organizers for tips, tricks, and product recs—and these finds are all discounted during Amazon’s spring sale.
“Concealed storage is the key for living room organization,” Kenzie Harkey, founder of Simply Dare tells Real Simple. “You often want to store puzzles, games, and photo albums in a living room because that's where you use those items, but it's best if they are stored behind closed doors.” That’s where items like baskets, TV consoles, and ottomans come in. And picks from Ashley Furniture, Walker Edison, and Christopher Knight Home are all discounted during the Big Spring Sale—up to 62 percent off.
Before adding anything to your cart, our experts recommend tidying up first. “Get rid of items you no longer need or use, and find a designated spot for everything else,” says Anna Butler, owner of UnClutterCo. “Spend a few minutes each day returning items to their designated places to prevent clutter from accumulating.”
In fact, Harkey suggests creating what she calls a “five-minute tidying routine” at the end of the day. This way, you can remove items that you’ve used in the space, but don’t necessarily belong in the living room. Think: kid toys, laptops, and even that bag of chips. Now that you’ve got a blank slate to work with, it’s time to implement some space-saving Amazon finds, and these start at just $18.
Blankets designated for the living room need their own space. While you can leave them thrown down on the futon, Butler says a woven basket, like this large rectangular option, is a better alternative. In fact, she incorporates these baskets into her clients’ homes because they’re “great for bulk blankets or extra pillows, [and] also double as a place to store kids’ toys,” she explains. The cotton rope basket is large enough to hold multiple throws, has built-in handles for shelf storing, and comes in eight colors.
If you need a place to hide remote controllers, pens, and other little knick knacks, Harkey says decorative storage is the way to go. “This is not the place to install basic plastic bins,” she shares. “You want the bins and baskets in the living room to blend in with your design aesthetic.” A great option? These pretty rattan wood boxes that’ll stash unseemly items away, while still keeping them in reach. The boxes have a glass top to display decorative essentials on the coffee table. However, you can tuck them away on a shelf to show off the vintage-like cane paneling as well.
With Amazon’s big sale happening, it’s a good time to invest in functional furniture. Butler is a big fan of multi-purpose pieces, like coffee tables with drawers or shelves, which “help maximize storage space and reduce clutter,” she says. This elegant Ashley Furniture farmhouse-style table is one to have on your radar. Not only does it have four functional drawers to stow away blankets, puzzles, or pillows, but it also has a lift-top design, making it perfect for eating dinner on the couch or working remotely.
