CASPER, Wyo. — A critical component of Casper’s wastewater treatment plant shuts down when it vibrates too much, and the City Council on Tuesday allocated $57,155 to repair it.

The council agreed to pay that in a consent resolution to the Arlington, Texas–based Andritz Separation Inc. during its regular meeting at its temporary chambers at The Lyric, 230 W. Yellowstone Highway.

A memo to City Manager Carter Napier from Chief Operating Officer Tom Brauer, Public Utilities Manager Bruce Martin and Sam Hobbs Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager Megan Lockwood outlined the problem. During the 2006–08 upgrade of the treatment plant, an Andritz dewatering centrifuge was installed as part of the solids-handling process. The centrifuge dewaters digest sludge from the anaerobic digestion process to prepare it for composting at the landfill. However, high vibrations are causing the centrifuge to shut down.

“Centrifuges are high-speed, complex pieces of equipment that require specialized [service] from manufacturer trained technicians,” according to the memo. “Andritz is able to provide technicians capable of completing this service and repair.”
