This year, Moon Boots—the pillowy winter footwear brand popularized in the ‘60s and ‘70s—have reached new heights, popping up on the feet of every influencer and model stepping out in winter weather. As with many retro resurgences, though, Moon Boots can be pretty divisive. On one hand, they’re the it winter boot silhouette of 2024; on the other, they’re chunkier and demand more attention than many modern-day silhouettes—and they’re expensive to boot (pun definitely intended).

Pro Tip: Moon Boots are sold in four sizes, which admittedly can be quite confusing. On the site, the brand says that each size correlates to three sizes (for example, 39/41 is meant for sizes 39, 40, and 41) and if you fall on the cusp, they recommend sizing up. A little firsthand intel for you though: I’m a size 41 (US 10 to 10.5). Since I’m on the cusp, I went up to a 42/44 and found that the boots fit well enough for the length of my foot but were huge around my ankles, to the point I had to return them in fear of having zero stability.
Suffice to say, if you can try Moon Boots on in person (they’re carried at Nordstrom), I highly suggest doing so before purchasing them directly from the Moon Boot site, as you only have 14 days to return them if there’s something wrong with your order.
