As a freelance writer who works 100% remotely and spends a significant portion of my life staring at and typing on my laptop, I'm always searching for the best chairs for my home office — aka the desk against the wall of my room. So, I was very excited to test out a Sihoo Ergonomic Chair, specifically the Sihoo Doro S300 model, described on the website as "Defying Gravity, Redefining Comfort." Recliner Sofa Mechanism

The Sihoo Doro S300 Takes A Seat Above The Rest With Its Revolutionary Approach To Comfort

Available from Sihoo for $799.99, I immediately knew that this ergonomic chair was an upgrade from the relatively standard and unfancy cushioned swivel chair I used before trying out this more deluxe product. Plus, the Sihoo website noted that the S300 chair has a design featuring two separate pads for excellent lumbar support. Considering how I've been told more times than I'd like to admit that I don't have the best posture, I was eager to experience this fancy chair's helpful features and see if they lived up to the hype.

When the box arrived, I needed assistance transporting it, as I've always been petite. I used a boxcutter to open it and was overwhelmed once I saw all the parts of the chair. In addition to the chair parts, the company provided hardware and tools to put it together. It also included a pair of white gloves, which I did not use. There was a manual with instructions explaining what all the parts and tools were called, how to use the hardware, and which parts to put where. It offered directions in different languages in other sections, too. However, I used a rubber mallet to secure the legs (which was not included). I'd never used one before, but fortunately, I already had one in my house. Though I used a rubber mallet, it isn't necessary for the assembly of the chair. In fact, Sihoo provides a wonderful tutorial video to help guide you through the setup process.

I must note that this was my first time setting up a chair. It was challenging and time-consuming. Luckily, the manual featured graphics and explanations that taught me about the different types of hardware and tools. Before assembling the chair, I had no idea what "washers" or a "T wrench" was. But I was able to follow the instructions step-by-step, starting with the legs. However, I still needed assistance, as aspects like assembling the wheels needed stronger motor skills. The box was crucial for preparing the backrest and backplate and putting them together, as those parts went against and on it for assembly. Someone had to help with this, too. Honestly, I don't think most individuals could put it all together alone, even with past assembly experience.

In the end, the results are worth the challenge! While assembling the chair was difficult, I can confirm it's an excellent product now that it's set up. The light gray look is great for the room, as the space also features many light neutrals. Furthermore, this chair towers over my previous one for a bolder statement look, adding more character to my workspace. Moreover, not only does the chair's significant height make it stand out, but the design looks like something out of a sci-fi movie; the sleek, shiny feature in the back and matching legs and armrest connectors appear super striking. Between the height, shiny details, innovative design, and various knobs, the person assisting me with assembly and I jokingly called the finished chair "the robot" — in the best way possible.

But most importantly, the chair is impressively comfortable. Instead of traditional-looking cushions, the seat has a mesh-like design using Italian velvet and TuPont TPEE; it feels good and looks stylish. I'm sitting in it now as I write this, and the seat is lightweight, feeling not too firm or soft — it's just right. In my opinion, the chair's most unique and exciting parts are the two back pads, which feel so cozy against my back while I work. However, the chair is quite heavy, which I expected, considering how hard it was to lift the parts. So, while it's easy to swivel in the seat and spin in the chair, rolling the full chair around is a challenge.

Overall, the product exceeded my high expectations. Thanks to the innovative, cozy double pads on my back, the chair may even improve my posture! Another convenient feature is that the 6D armrests are adjustable to whatever position is most comfortable, with an added bonus of coordinating with the chair when it reclines. I like making them horizontal to prevent them from crashing against my desk as I move closer to my laptop while writing and researching for work and various creative projects. You can also adjust how far back you want the chair to recline, and I use the most relaxed recline option, which allows me to lean back and calm down as needed. I really enjoyed this feature and keep it on the option that allows the most reclining. I think that it's super practical to offer the other options for those who may not want to lean back as far.

Since using the chair, I've noticed fewer back pains throughout the day — while and after working at my desk. And even after sitting in it for at least five hours at a time, a minimum of five days in a row, the chair still looks brand new. So, if you're willing to pay a higher price tag for a new ergonomic chair (to go with the rest of your ergonomic home office pieces), you may want to consider this advanced and ultra-cozy option. While there's no denying that it's on the higher end of most budgets, the unique sci-fi look and ultra-comfy features are worth the splurge.
