Born Dec. 26, 1934 in Cordova, he was a son of the late Hampton Smoak and Minnie Stroble Smoak.

Along with his parents, Harold is reunited in passing with his loving wife of more than sixty-four years, Margaret Vivian Smoak; and their son, David Smoak.

He was also predeceased by sisters, Elizabeth Turner and Lillian Parler; and brothers, Benton Smoak, Hamp Smoak Jr. and Grover Smoak.

Smokey, as he was affectionately known, proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he was able to enjoy the finer things in life.

Smokey relocated to Murrells Inlet with his family where he worked tirelessly across the Grand Strand.

Smokey was a master welder with an eye for perfection, who proudly owned his own kitchen equipment and repair company. His attention to detail made him an integral part of the restaurant industry and local community. Many (he would tell you ‘all’) local business owners relied on Smokey’s expertise and appreciated his time and efforts.

In his free time, Smokey found peace while being outdoors. He was particularly fond of tending to his lawn and garden and took great pride in his flowerbeds. Above all else, Smokey loved his family with his whole heart. He will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered for his quick wit, infectious laughter and the love he had for his family.

Left to cherish Harold’s memory are his adoring daughter, Pamela Rehm and her husband John of Loris; son, Michael Smoak and his wife Marsha of Prosperity; grandchildren, Mikey Smoak (Lisa), Bryan Smoak (Bianca), Katelyn Boehm (Shaun), Aubrey Jones (Chandler) and Ricky Summers; great-grandchildren, Gracie, Lydia, Laramie, Faith and Lauren; great-great-granddaughter, Hazel; sister, Gladys Ruple; as well as an army of nieces, nephews and cousins; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.

The family will gather to greet friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service.

At the request of the family, please consider memorial contributions in lieu of flowers. Donations in Harold’s name may be made to, Maple Baptist Church Building Fund/ Food Pantry, 4500 State Hwy 65, Conway, SC 29526, https://www.maplebaptistchurch.org/
