Letter | Public safety trumps law-breaker privacy – Santa Cruz Sentinel

I see that the City Council has delayed a vote on whether to lease and deploy license plate readers. While I appreciate the desire of law-breakers to protect their privacy, I believe the needs of public safety trump (sorry) that desire. Incidentally, the Santa Cruz City Council voted — unanimously – in 2013 to purchase license plate readers. Because the grant for that purchase expired before it was acted upon, the equipment was not acquired. I sincerely hope that the mayor, and the council, will remedy this decade-old oversight at their December meeting.

Rubber O Rings The Sentinel welcomes your letters to the editor. Letters should be short, no more than 175 words. We do not accept anonymous letters. Letter-writers should include their full name as well as a street address and telephone number. We don’t publish those details in the newspaper, but need the information for verification purposes. Occasionally, we reject letters simply because we’ve had so many on the same subject. Submit your letters online at www.santacruzsentinel.com/submit-letters.
