Godox is announcing two new, high-power, hard RGB LED panels. Aimed at professionals and medium-large production studios, the Godox KNOWLED P600R and P1200R panels combine high output, rugged build, modular compatibility, and advanced control methods. Both panels support a wide CCT range of 1,800-10,000K, as well as full RGB coverage. The P600R offers CRI 96 / TLCI96 while its bigger P1200R brother offers CRI 96 / TLCI 98. This impressive spec list is only part of the story, so let’s dive in.
The lighting market has grown significantly in the last decade or so as various new manufacturers try their luck and ingenuity entering it. While Godox isn’t a particularly old lighting company, they’ve managed to accumulate a lot of experience over the years and now occupy a strong, professional position while still maintaining relative affordability. The KNOWLED P600R and P1200R hard RGB LEDs are a natural evolution in this regard.
The square Godox KNOWLED P600R is a medium-sized RGB LED. The P1200R is essentially an x2 version, about twice the size, power output, price, etc. As their model name suggests, they draw 600W / 1200W respectively. The fixture’s build is quite robust, including a metal yoke, angle adjustment handle, control panel, and various inputs. Both also include active cooling fans to prolong intensive operation.
Being a hard LED RGB panel, the P600R and P1200R gain some significant advantages over their flexible competitors. Perhaps the most noticeable is the lens array enabling the fixtures’ high output. The P600R draws 600W and produces beams as intense as 71,700 lux at a distance of 1 meter at 5600K. The larger P1200R essentially doubles this with 136,000 lux at a distance of 1 meter at 5600K from a 1200W power draw.
Aside from their high output, the KNOWLED duo also produces high-quality light with rather flexible character. Both panels produce a CCT range of 1,800-10,000K, as well as full RGB coverage. The P600R offers CRI 96 / TLCI 96 while its bigger P1200R brother offers CRI 96 / TLCI 98. The 360 hue spectrum can be controlled using various modes – RGBW, HSI, CCT, Gel, XY, and FX modes are all available for maximum efficiency and accuracy. The KNOWLED panels offer linear, S-curve, exponential, and logarithmic dimming methods from 0.1% to 100%. If you need something more specific, the KNOWLED P600R / P1200R also comes with 14 lighting effects such as welding, lightning, broken bulb, police, etc.
Alongside traditional manual controls on the fixture, the Godox KNOWLED panels utilize various other control methods. These include DMX 512/RDM control and wireless LumenRadio/CRMX. As with most contemporary lighting options, there is the Godox Light app, which will allow for Bluetooth control from up to 30 meters away.
LED panels aren’t the natural candidates for light modifiers, but Godox managed to fit this KNOWLED duo with quite an impressive array. While it won’t provide the flexibility of a COB fixture, there are several modifiers available.
Lightboxes, grids, barn doors, and more are readily available. Being hard panels, the KNOWLED can stack together, making them even more modular. Also, there’s a flat diffusion panel available to maintain a compact size while diffusing the light output.
Both Godox KNOWLED P600R and P1200R Hard RGB LED Light Panels are available for preorder and are expected to ship around May 2024. The smaller P600R will cost $2,190 / €3,749 and the larger P1200R will set you back $4,590.
Will the Godox KNOWLED P600R and P1200R fill a gap in your production toolbox? How will you use them? Let us know in the comments.
