Providing toys for children through Toys for Tots donations, plus canned food for the Good Neighbor Cupboard food pantry in Anderson, is a goal the Western Carolina Sailing Club has accomplished, said co-director Ronnie Ashmore at the 10th annual Parade of Lights on Lake Hartwell in Anderson.

"It's turned into a great event," Ashmore said. Double Water Slide

A line of 17 creatively decorated boats lined up to make two passes by Green Pond Landing and near the State Highway 24 double bridges toward Portman Marina and back to the Western Carolina Sailing Club on Saturday night. The boat, decorated to look like a red sleigh by cc-chairman Ron Sanga, launched fireworks into the sky above for spectators to see.

Members rode their boats with music playing for what Ashmore said was a "boatload of toys, so to speak."

Blow Up Boat With Motor Missy Goodwin, who was collecting toys and food with Paul Jordan, both sailing club members from Asheville, said it warmed her heart. "It's a great opportunity, great thing to do. We love it," she said. "People helping out to make sure everybody has something under their tree, and something on their table."
