Trash & Recycling | Prosper, TX

The Town has contracted with Republic Services for solid waste and recycling services. Each household will be supplied with a 95-gallon gray trash cart and a 95-gallon green recycling cart by Republic for automated pickup services. Place all trash and recyclable items out no later than 7:00 a.m., for automated pickup between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on your service day.

Handicapped and physically challenged residents – please email ub@prospertx.gov or call 945-234-1924 to arrange for front door service.

Trash and recycling will be collected once a week. Please view the interactive map to determine your collection day. Just select Solid Waste/Recycling Collection and then type in your address in the box on the upper left. Republic Services will not service customer-owned trash carts under this contract. Any personal cart left out will be considered bulk trash and be removed.

Automated Trash Collection - Gray Cart

Household trash must be placed in the Gray Town of Prosper provided trash cart or up to ten disposable bags. Personal trash carts will not be serviced. If placed out, an empty personal cart will be considered bulk trash and taken away.

Automated Recycling Collection - Green Cart

Recyclables must be placed inside the Green Town of Prosper provided recycling cart. 

Place all trash and recyclable items out no later than 7:00 a.m., for automated pickup between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on your service day. Please place the gray trash cart and the green recycling cart with wheels toward the curb. Please ensure the trash and recycle carts are three feet apart and are clear of obstructions.

Additional carts can be obtained for a $7.60/month fee for trash and a $3.30/month fee for recycling; contact our solid waste number at 945-234-1924 or email ub@prospertx.gov for requests.

When a holiday occurs, trash service will be delayed by one day. The 2024 holidays that will impact service:

No other holidays will affect service. The Town will provide holiday trash updates through our various online, print and email platforms.

If your trash or recycling was missed, please call 972-316-0789 . Republic Services will try to return on the same day to service your carts. If their drivers have already left, we will collect them the following day.

Please remember to ensure that your recyclables are empty, clean, and dry before placing them in your recycling cart. Bulk includes appliances, pieces of furniture, or other residential items that are too large for a cart. Hazardous waste, car parts, tires, and non-compactible items, such as bricks and concrete, will not be collected with regular bulk trash. Up to four cubic yards will be collected on your scheduled bulk collection day, please refer to the 2024 Bulk Trash Calendar.

Yard waste must be placed in kraft bags or other sacks authorized by the Town. Items placed in kraft bags will be picked up weekly. 

Kraft bags can store the following:

Limbs or brush must be cut into lengths of four feet or less and must be securely tied with no limbs exceeding six inches in diameter and no bundle exceeding 50 lbs. No debris resulting from the services of a commercial tree service provide

Bulky items may be dropped off at Prosper Public Works, 601 W 5th Street, on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and noon. Please be prepared to show your Prosper Utility Bill proving your residency in the Town of Prosper.

Prosper residents can utilize the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) program one time per year at no cost to the resident. To schedule a pickup, please fill out and save the HHW fillable form and email it to prosperhhw@republicservices.com. To order additional trash or recycling carts, have excess trash or recycling carts removed, have your carts repaired, or have service issues please call our solid waste number at 945-234-1924.

Utilize your green cart for recyclables without the need for sorting. Place the cart at the curb before 7 a.m. on your collection day. No sorting is needed.

The following items are non-recyclable and should not be placed in the green recycling cart:

Please ensure proper disposal methods for these non-recyclable items according to local guidelines and regulations.

Every Saturday between 8 a.m. and noon you may drop off extra trash and bulk trash items at 601 W. Fifth St. (Prosper Public Works Center). You must show proof of residency with a current Prosper utility bill. Please visit the Trash and Recycling page to check holiday closure dates. 

On New Year's Day (January 1), Thanksgiving (November 28), and Christmas Day (December 25), collection services will be delayed by one day, with service resuming on the following day (Tuesday for New Year's Day, Friday for Thanksgiving, and Thursday for Christmas Day).

If your scheduled collection is missed, please call 972-316-079 as soon as possible. Republic Services will make every effort to return on the same day for pickup. In the event the driver has already left the Town of Prosper, collection will take place the following day.

To ensure timely collection, please have your recycling and tash carts at the curb before 7 a.m.

To schedule an Electronics Recycling or Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection, residents can fill out the online Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Fillable Form (PDF). Please save, fill out the form, and email it to prosper@republicservices.com. If you have any questions, please call Republic Services at 469.451.3713 or email prosper@republicservices.com. Upon scheduling, residents will receive the required bags for proper disposal.

Yard waste, including grass, leaves, flowers, stalks, tree trimmings, brush, and branches, must be placed in kraft bags or other sacks authorized by the Town. These containers should be designed specifically for storing yard waste and should not exceed 40 lbs.

The following items are accepted in the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) program:

Unlimited tied and bundled brush will also be accepted. Use only biodegradable cotton/jute rope, twine, or string to tie and bundle tree and brush trimmings. Do not bundle tree and brush trimmings with nylon rope, plastic, metal, garden hoses, or other non-compostable materials.

No, debris resulting from the services of a commercial tree service provider is not permitted for disposal with yard waste. Residents are advised to follow the specified guidelines for acceptable yard waste items.

No, there are no additional costs for the required bags provided for Electronics Recycling or HHW pickup. The service is offered at no cost to Prosper residents.

Yes, the biodegradable yard waste bag must be tied. Use only biodegradable cotton/jute rope, twine, or string to tie and bundle tree and brush trimmings. Do not bundle tree and brush trimmings with nylon rope, plastic, metal, garden hoses, or other non-compostable materials. Leaves and grass clippings must be bagged, no loose brush will be accepted. Please see the Republic Brochure for more information regarding size and weight of brush and bundles.  

Please remove all gas and oil from the item. The homeowner can place the item for bulk trash pick up on their bulk trash pick up day or use the Saturday drop-off service at the Public Works building located at 601 W. Fifth St between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon. You must show proof of residency with a current Prosper utility bill. 

The trash and recycle carts should stay at the address for the new tenants. Our Utility Customer Service department advises that you leave them inside the garage for the new tenants. Yes, there is a landfill within the City of Melissa, Texas, located at 3820 Sam Rayburn Highway (SH 121). There is a fee to use the landfill. You may not use the Custer Road transfer station in Plano, Texas. For up-to-date costs and hours call (469) 626-4452.
