While talking wall decor, most people imagine a painting, hanging or simply the colour of the wall. However, what if that wall was a bit interactive? exterior wpc cladding
You have probably seen a TV show he hosts. The one about homes and generally everything housing.
Edwin Musiime loves the real estate sector and he doesn’t hide it; he loves going the extra mile and being edgy even when it is just a home as many would say.
Probably that was the approach he had while looking at his house walls when construction was going on; he thought of having a 3D wall, like those ones in hotel lobbies.
He actually talks about his love for hotels casually.
Edville residence as he calls his home, inspires a blend between traditional desires syncing with modernity.
But what will grab your attention the moment you get into one of his rooms is the difference in pattern of the walls, some are simply smooth, while others are inviting; with protruding features.
“The 3D wall panels give us that warmth, and help us compliment a natural home set up with something like a hotel set up,” he says.
This could visibly be seen right from the wall in his living room (which was literally all white save for the pictures on the walls and other furniture) where the TV stands.
The 3D wall on the TV stand was backed up by the 3D panel boards on the opposite side of the wall where the sofas were situated.
“My wife knows that the only time I leave the house is when I really have to. Otherwise, I never want to leave home” he says.
According to Musiime, the 3D walls create the comfort that would make you feel like you are at home, and at the same time some unknown place far away from home. “I think it is a whole great substitute of gypsum boards (Wallboard with a gypsum plaster core bonded to layers of paper or fibreboard; used instead of plaster or wallboard to make interior walls) which in comparison to 3D walls look heavy, have clutter all over the place, while all we wanted was a linear, simpler walls.” Musiime said.
He was able to have these walls installed in two of the bedrooms, the living room and his office, the places he says are best to feel the 3D wall effect.
“We chose to put the boards on the feature walls of the living room and the master suit because they are the centre of focus. It would be dangerous having them all over the house since it clatters the whole space making it congested,” he said.
Patrick Ssenyange, an engineer and interior designer, who has installed several 3D walls says they are made of hard paper to enable efficient gluing to the wall.
Before one thinks of installing these walls, they need to put in consideration the place and wall where the panels will be installed. The walls need to be smooth since the panels are glued to it. This brings out the design well.
The painting in the house will also help you choose the kind of design you may need that does not clash with the rest of the house colour theme.
Since it is a new interior designing trend, it comes in different designs spoiling you for choice. Stone like designs, cloudlike, water like or any other form you need.
The fact that the panels are light and easy to move around gives the house owner a chance to easily re-imagine the theme or totally change it whenever they may feel like.
It is not the kind of installation that one will be stuck with long after they have got tired of it.
It is a completely Do It Yourself project if one can perfectly align them properly without leaving gaps in between the panels which may leave the whole project looking clumsy. It involves a lot of measurements to fit the panels exactly on the feature wall you need them on.
Thus it is easier to bring in a professional to perfectly align the patterns and edges without leaving room for imperfections.
For both the boards and installation, Musiime spent Shs145, 000 per square meter.
According to Ssenyange, picking the 3D wall panels really depends on the theme and design you need them in and obviously, the quality. Installation prices also depend on the designer installing your 3D walls, which is barely different from the price of installing tiles.
These walls start from Shs20, 000 per piece. If a box contains four pieces, that makes it Shs80, 000.
For installation, Ssenyange charges Shs10, 000 per square metre but that is not definite for other interior designers.
From Ugandan online stores, prices range from Shs35, 000 to Shs95, 000.
From international online shops, prices range from $3- $250 (Shs11, 200- Shs927, 000)
