Officers were able to evacuate the residents and a cat from inside, said Bridgewater Police Lt. Frederick J. Brittain III.

RWJ Rescue Squad treated two people from the building on the scene and took them to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital (Somerset) for evaluation.

East Main Street was closed between Finderne Avenue and Adamsville Road for responding emergency personnel.

The preliminary cause of the fire is due to an Ion-Lithium battery from an electronic bicycle; however, the fire remains under investigation, said Brittain III.

The Red Cross of New Jersey also went to the home to help a family of seven with Red Cross emergency assistance for things like temporary lodging, food, clothing and other immediate needs.
