Rhenen – The completely new China Light Festival event will start on December 21, 2019 in Ouwehands Zoo in Rhenen.Metres-high handmade light artworks by Chinese artists transform the zoo into a magical light festival for young and old.
Tonight the official opening of this magical festival for invited guests took place.Chinese Ambassador Hong Xu, Mayor Hans van der Pas and the owner of Ouwehands Zoo Rhenen Marcel Boekhoorn, among others, were present and performed an appropriate opening ceremony.At first the switch faltered for a while, but the technical eye of Ambassador Hong Xu expertly solved the problem. What makes this festival so special is that all objects are custom designed and made by a group of specialists from China.They are currently on location in the Netherlands building and installing the meter-high light elements.The artworks contain animals, flora and typical Chinese and Dutch items.
The strong bond between Rhenen and Sichuan Since 2017, two giant pandas from the Chinese province of Sichuan have been staying in Ouwehands Zoo in Rhenen.Through the OZF foundation, Ouwehands Zoo is committed to preserving and protecting the habitat of giant pandas in Sichuan.The bond that developed between Rhenen and Sichuan was indirectly the reason for the collaboration with the Chinese organization Zigong Haitian Culture, which realizes the China Light Festival.The organization comes from the city of Zigong in Sichuan province, which is known for its grand light festival.
Entertainment for a total experience China Light Festival offers the visitor, in addition to the fantastic light objects, a total experience through entertainment with a Chinese character such as a traditional lion dance.You can also visit a new theater show, called Witter dan Wit.
