Since purchasing my first home, I’ve been on the lookout for high-quality, simple yet elegant, durable and fairly-priced dinnerware. I’ve tried a multitude of brands and often found four out of five checklist items. I feel confident I’ve ticked every box with the Fable dinnerware collection .

A dining brand born in Canada, Fable works with artisanal makers around the world to design and create products that are timeless and built to last. They use high-quality and environmentally-mindful materials. Fable is motivated by “a common vision to create products that are as enjoyable as they are ethical.” The final result? A stunning, dainty yet durable collection of ceramics, glassware, flatware and more.

My experience: I love the varying sizes and depths of the bowls and the low rims on the plates to help combat food spills. The plates and bowls are made at a zero-waste ceramics facility in Portugal and are hand-finished making each piece unique.

Materials: Soda-lime glassware treated with an ion-toughening technique for durability What’s included: Four of each — Tall Glasses , Short Glasses (each can be purchased separately) Colours: Clear Made in: Japan Dishwasher safe: Yes What makes them special: Scratch resistant, lead-free, near-shatterproof strength Warranty: 100-day trial Price: $182 for the 8-piece set (currently on sale for $164) Where to buy: Fable

My experience: The glasses have held up exceptionally well in my household — including many dishwasher cycles and even a few swipes from my one-year-old daughter. Knowing that they are 1.6 times tougher than typical glassware gives me peace of mind that they will last.

Materials: High-quality clear crystal stemware treated with an ion-toughening technique for durability What’s included: Four of each — The Wine Glasses , The Coupe Glasses and The Flute Glasses (each can be purchased separately) Colours: Clear Made in: Germany Dishwasher safe: Yes What makes them special: Scratch-resistant, lead-free, shatter-resistant strength Warranty: 100-day trial Price: $415 for the 12-piece set (currently on sale for $374) Where to buy: Fable

My experience: The stemware collection uses the same ion-toughening technique as the glassware, making them 1.6 times more durable. They look straight out of a fancy cocktail and wine bar and have received a ton of compliments already.

Materials: High-quality 18/10 stainless steel What’s included: Four pieces each — dinner forks, salad forks, large spoons, small spoons, knives Colours: Matte black, matte gold, polished silver, matte silver Made in: Portugal Dishwasher safe: Yes What makes them special: Restaurant quality, will stay rust and stain-free years Warranty: 100-day trial Price: $329 for the 20-piece set Where to buy: Fable

My experience: I opted for the matte black flatware and worried about how they would look after a few dishwasher cycles. There’s been no change to the look and feel after multiple washes. The cutlery is nicely weighted and feels good in my hands.

Overall recommendation: The entire collection is sleek, simple and absolutely gorgeous. If you can’t tell, I’m in love with my Fable products so far. The timeless look of the pieces makes me feel as though I will use them for years, which is important, because they are a substantial investment when comparing a purchase made from IKEA, for example. Fable is transparent about its production processes, right down to the costs. The website breaks down the fees for certain products such as the dinner plates and flatware sets — materials and labour, freight, duties and shipping costs — so you can see the cost to the company versus the cost to consumer.

Everything is dishwasher safe which makes cleaning easy. At the suggestion of the company, I got the Tawashi Brush for cleaning up minor marks from flatware, but I haven’t had to use it yet.

Last thoughts: An excellent collection of dinner party and everyday dinnerware to elevate your at-home dining experience. Fable products are built to last the test of time, both functionally and aesthetically.
