Dustin Meaux of Goliad captured the bronze medal in the Masters 1 (40-49) super heavyweight division at the International Powerlifting Federation World Bench Press Championships on Saturday in Austin.

Meaux, representing the United States for the first time in international competition, had a top lift of 292.5 kilograms (644.85 pounds). The United States’ Andrew Cargill also lifted 292.5 kilograms, but was awarded the silver medal due to lower body weight.

Germany’s Rene Gross won the gold medal with a lift of 320 kilograms (705.48 pounds).
