The unveiling of the new production-spec Koenigsegg Gemera has sent shockwaves through the automotive world, with changes and revisions to the engineering of the self-proclaimed megacar that add even more splendor to its innovation, like the fact that the design with 3 electric motors was swapped for only one. That one motor is Koenigsegg’s new e-motor called “Dark Matter,” and it contributes to a 1,400 horsepower figure in the new production-spec Gemera, as well as a 2,300 horsepower figure in the upcoming V8-powered version that was also recently announced. Its contribution: 800 horsepower and 922 lb/ft of torque.
A marvel of engineering, the “raxial flux” motor, as Koenigsegg calls it, features 6-phase technology and is the most powerful automotive-grade electric motor with it. With the Dark Matter motor, the new Koenigsegg Gemera is more versatile than ever, offering powerful all-wheel drive electric propulsion on top of the capabilities of its combustion engine and its luxurious four-seat interior. The newly-unveiled production-spec Gemera will be the first Koenigsegg to feature the Dark Matter motor and show its potential on the road, and it marks a new chapter in the story of the highly-anticipated Gemera, with the concept verion of the car being unveiled in 2020.
At the new Gripen Atelier, production of the client-spec Gemera is set to begin at the end of 2024, and the first customer cars will start to be delivered at the beginning of 2025. With the help of this revolutionary new electric motor, Koenigsegg continues to rewrite the rulebooks of the automotive world.
