Mechanic dies after getting pinned by vehicle lift at auto repair center

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR/Gray News) - Authorities in Illinois say a mechanic has died after getting pinned by a vehicle he was working on at an auto repair center.

According to the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office, Dennis Modloff, 55, was working under a Jeep at Kurt’s Service Center when the SUV fell on him Wednesday morning. manual hydraulic lifter

Rockford police said the vehicle was parked on top of a hydraulic vehicle lift with an under-hoist jack stand that was holding up the rear axle.

However, the jack stand moved while Modloff was making repairs on the Jeep and the vehicle fell on top of him.

The 55-year-old became pinned between the SUV and the lift’s ramp.

Another employee found Modloff and called 911, but first responders determined he was beyond resuscitation and pronounced dead.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday while police continue their investigation.
